Mama Mia – Not the same it used to be!

Rating: 1 out of 5

As I have a sweet tooth, I used to just head for any Mama Mia! outlet in Kolkata. If I remember, Mama Mia! has total seven outlets in Kolkata but my favourite hang-out joint is the one at Park Street near Music World.

What I love about Mama Mia! is the way their desserts are served to customers- the very sight of a gelato ice cream or sundae is just so irresistible. I have almost lost count the number of times I have eaten here over the years. Sadly the quality has really gone down. The last time we were here we tried some Tropical Fruit Burst (a succulent assortment of exotic tropical fruit topped with French Vanilla gelato and whipped cream), double chocolate twist (a yummilicious dessert made from Belgian chocolate mousse and accompanied with gelato [whichever one you want] and drizzled with chocolate sauce) and cafe mocha – none of them tasted nice at all except the double chocolate twist (no surprise there!).

Apart from the above, I have also tasted their other chocolate delicacies (being a great chocolate fan myself). I liked their muddy lava cake (a hot gooey mud cake with “chocolate lava" at the centre). You can have it with your choice of gelato. I did not like their chocolate overload (warm mud pie served with hot fudge, nuts, cream and your choice of gelato) as well as their sizzling brownies & gelato.

I would suggest – don’t visit this place unless you are a die-hard fan of their desserts. There are many better options out there these days.
