Easily the most successful phone of 2013 (with over 10
million sold in the first 30 days alone!), the much awaited Galaxy S4
definitely lives up to the Galaxy S legacy. Some are of the opinion that the
latest Galaxy device is a worthy upgrade to its predecessor. To some, the
device is a revolutionary and evolutionary step in smartphone making. With the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Korean smartphone
manufacturer hopes to tighten its hold on the smartphone market. The Galaxy S
maker truly believes that this device will help in reasserting its Android
supremacy. The new Samsung device is an improvement on the previous Galaxy
versions. It boasts of a more powerful hardware and some new software tricks.
With the addition of new sensors, the Galaxy S4 becomes the must have multipurpose
tool.
Like its predecessor, the Galaxy S3, the new device features
a 5’’ screen into its very slim and compact body. The superior image quality of
the phone is the result of their latest 1080p Super AMOLED screen. The S4 comes with 2 GB of RAM and the regular
16/32/64 GB of built in storage space. The phone also has a microSD card slot and microUSB port. It is a quad-band EDGE/GSM/GPRS device
combined with quad-band 3G with HSPA and LTE. Most importantly, the Galaxy S4
comes with the latest version of the Jelly Bean operating system. The Android
4.2.2 Jelly Bean device is loaded with many new and exciting TouchWiz user
interface features. It will definitely take awhile for new users to get used to
these new interface features. The device runs on a powerful 1.9 GHz quad- core
processor and the qualcomm snapdragon 600 chipset.
Pros - Solid Camera
with great photos and solid performance
Besides the superior screen and the lightning fast
processor, the camera of the S4 is another much loved and admired phone
component. The camera comes with a simple user friendly interface and the image
quality can be compared to some of the premium mobiles in the market. The 13 megapixels camera is the best that you
can find in the market. At the same time, the device also features a 2 MP front
facing camera. Performance wise, the S4 ranks high among all other smartphones.
Its competition in the future will definitely be only the Galaxy Note 3.
Cons - Poor Video and
FM issues
In comparison with other smartphone devices, the S4 does
suffer from certain disadvantages. The dated design and the inferior hyperglaze
finish are the lowdowns of the phone. The device also does not provide any FM
radio application. The video recording capability is inferior to the recording
capability supported by the Galaxy S3. Again, the field of view component in
the video application of S4 is very narrow. Another problem that rises from the
shared camera interface is that the framing of images becomes tricky in this
phone.
The final verdict for the Galaxy S4 is that it is definitely
a satisfactory and much appreciated updated device from the Galaxy S makers. In
such a small and compact device, Samsung has managed to
fit in a large screen, a longer lasting battery and more processing power. This
is simply an impressive achievement; one that was not seen in the previous Galaxy
S phones.
