Red Bamboo Shoot Restaurant is a very
commonplace restaurant located in the Rajdanga, Kasba area. This is one of
those very few restaurants in this area that serves decent Chinese fare. It is
a very small and plain looking restaurant but with comfortable sitting
arrangements. There is nothing extraordinary about the ambience and décor of
this establishment, but the service and food do deserve appreciation. The food
service is quick and prompt (as they want you to eat and leave!).
Their dim sum options like chicken or veg Sui mai and momos are
quite popular around this area. Their dim sums are not only fast and fresh, but
go very well with the hot and tangy green chilli sauce that is served with
them. The dim sum portions are not only ample but juicy and meaty as well. Their
noodles and fried rice options are light and non greasy preparations, but in
terms of taste, their fried rice dishes lack that authentic Chinese taste. The
quantities of these staples are (without any doubt) more than enough. They also
have some notable lamb preparations as well, like lamb in green chilli sauce
and lamb in chilli oyster sauce though we did not try any. But it is their
prawns and chicken items that are more sought after and they are prepared very
well. A short list of the items that are worth ordering includes Sichuan prawns,
prawns in chilli oyster sauce, garlic pepper chicken, Hunan chicken, and Mongolian chicken.
To round off your meal here, they do serve desserts like toffee walnut with ice
cream, darsaan with vanilla ice cream and vanilla ice cream in chocolate sauce.
The place is acceptable and tolerable for reasonable and decent
Chinese fare. The cost of the food is fair for the quality of food that you get
here.
