Taste authentic Bengali cuisine at Bhoomi!

Who would not enjoy being treated like a king! Who would not like to dig into delicious Bengali food that is served in the most traditional way in a plush restaurant! Yes, anyone and everyone would enjoy such treatment and I (being a big foodie) am no exception to it.  To escape the din and bustle of city life that had strained my nerves, I decided to spend a few days at the Vedic Village Spa Resort. I must say that anyone who wants to escape into nature’s inviting arms to enjoy peace and serenity should take a trip to Vedic Village. Located on the outskirts of Kolkata, Vedic Village is a place where you get rejuvenated, forgetting your stress and tension.

On arriving at my destination, I was overjoyed to see that the resort authorities have retained immense greenery around. The growth of dense vegetation and a clean pond gave me a feeling of being transported into a village that has escaped the onslaught of modern developments and civilization. Anyways let me not digress and come straight to the point. I am here to introduce you to some delectable Bengali dishes that all food lovers crave for. Vedic Village prides itself on its Bengali restaurant Bhoomi. On entering this restaurant, I was mesmerized at the plush ambience and artful décor. There was a traditional Bengali touch in everything. From lighting and decoration to table arrangement and serving- everything has a Bengali touch to it.

Comfortably seated in one of the wooden chairs, I cooled down and soothed myself with a glass of Bhoomir Sharbot (a unique blend of fresh tender coconut water and sweet aerated water served with fresh mint). Next, I ordered a hearty meal that consisted of begun pora ( starter), aloo paneer bhapa ( a preparation of new potato and cottage cheese, marinated with organic mustard and coconut paste, wrapped in banana leaf and steamed to a patty consistency), kakra chingri bhapa ( a unique preparation of fresh crab and river shrimp. Fresh crab and river shrimp are pounded with fresh coriander, a hint of green chilli and garlic, wrapped in banana leaf, steamed and seasoned with organic single pressed mustard oil), Illish sorsey ( hilsa cooked in organic mustard based gravy and finished with coconut paste. It is a special recipe from Borishal district, Bangladesh) and Kosha mangsho (kid lamb cubes cooked in a golden brown onion gravy on a charcoal fired oven). The above delicacies were served with misti pulao (sweet rice preparation), gobindo bhog rice and luchi (traditional deep fried puffed bread served in a platter). I licked my platter clean and lastly, savoured the sweetness of chutney and crunchiness of bhaja papad. I also liked the nectarous misti doi and bhapa sandesh. Wholesome, appetizing and delicious, I really liked authentic Bengali food at Bhoomi. An artful ambience and excellent service were extra feathers to the caps of the proprietors who maintain this restaurant in this exclusive Spa Resort. Spare a few days from your busy schedule and visit this place once, you’ll be able to relax in the lap of nature and at the same time get to taste delicious Bengali food.
