Vicky Donor: Great Entertainer Packed with a Fabulous Sense of Humour

Vicky Donor is one of those unconventional movies that has a fabulous sense of humour and yet conflicts itself by leaving a strong message in the end. It’s a thorough family entertainer that boasts of a splendid narrative, some really good dialogues and music that you would love to hear to your heart’s content. In fact, the bhangra song ‘Rum Whiskey’ and the slow romantic sound track “Pani Da Rang” will definitely appeal to you and set your foot tapping.

Directed by Sujit Sircar, the movie discusses a serious issue such as “infertility” in a funny yet poignantly sharp manner. Vicky Donor is a perfect blend of emotions, feeling and storytelling that Bollywood cinema was once famous for.

The movie basically revolves around a Delhi based Punjabi boy Vicky (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Bengali girl Ashima (Debutant Yami Gautam) who fall in love with each other. But the story has a unique twist to it. Dr Chaddha (Annu Kapoor), who runs a infertility clinic in Daryaganj in Delhi convinces Vicky to donate his sperm to help infertile couples who are childless. Initially, Vicky shrugs him off but eventually succumbs to Dr Chaddha’s repeated request simply because he now stands a chance to make a huge amount of money through sperm donation.

Vicky falls in love with Ashima, a banker by profession and decides to marry her. The couple tie the knot but soon their blissful married life crashes as Ashima discovers about Vicky’s past as a sperm donor.
Ashima, who cannot conceive, blames Vicky and is simply unwilling to come to terms to the fact that her husband had been donating sperm before marriage and even for a certain period after that. However, Vicky eventually manages to win her back with help from Dr. Chaddha. The fact that martial life not only crashes because of mistrust but also due to insecurities, and why infertility is on the rise – these are some of the interesting points that Vicky Donor has covered quite cleverly.

Both Ayushmann and Yami have done full justice to their characters and have proved their mettle as actors. However, some of the highlights of the movie and characters who need a special mention are Vicky’s mother (Dolly Ahluwalia) and grandmother (Kamlesh Gill). Through their spectacular performances and amazing dialogue delivery, both Ahluwalia and Gill have been admired by one and all.  Annu Kapoor does a terrific job as Dr. Chaddha. If you are planning to watch light-hearted comedy, then “Vicky Donor” is a must watch for you!
