MATCH PREVIEW: MUMBAI INDIANS V KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS- MAY 16, 2012

At this stage of 2012 IPL when all the seven teams are looking for the playoffs, the competition is very tough. To give a new stunt to this tournament, another such breathtaking and exciting match is waiting tonight which will be played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The match has been scheduled at 8.00 PM IST.

Although Mumbai literally huffed and puffed to get victories during the initial stage of this IPL but as the tournament progressed, the team started proving their efficiency after having little changes. In their last two matches, they bagged impressive triumphs against Bangalore and Kolkata which have paved their way to the second position in the DLF IPL Standings 2012 and have also strengthen their position in the playoffs. Inclusion of Herschelle Gibbs has appeared as a lucky champ for this team because he has done great job in both the matches played. Apart from Gibbs, another Mumbai player who has been the center of attraction of this team is Pollard. He has been outstanding in batting, bowling and fielding. His magnificent action in the field has really given an awesome hit to the team’s success. Mumbai is in full swing at the moment and is looking for another win tonight to be in No. 1 rank and if this team consistency sustains till the end of this IPL, Mumbai is not very far from the much coveted IPL championship title.

At this moment, Kolkata is in a wobbling position and are looking for a win tonight to strengthen their position in the playoffs and also to take revenge for the Eden match against Mumbai held on May 12. So compared to their opponent, this match is more important for Kolkata. Moreover when the outcome shifts a little from the expected trend, the situation seems to be more thrilling and that is what is happening with Kolkata. Giving a mind blowing performance in most of the matches in this IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders moved up to the table topper position and then suddenly they started losing matches in a disappointing manner. These successive losses in the last two matches against Mumbai and Chennai have pushed Kolkata in the 3rd position and today’s game will decide whether Gambhir’s team will add colors to the playoffs or will be pushed out of IPL 2012. The main thing to worry about this team is the middle order batting. Apart from the openers- McCullum and Captain Gambhir, only Kallis and Tiwary succeed in adding some runs to the team total and that too occasionally. So if the team does not change this trend tonight and if the entire batting line up does not contribute, then it is seriously a matter to worry for Kolkata because they are well aware that Mumbai is a very strong rival to defy.

Obviously the respective supporters are praying and supporting their teams whole heartedly but in this match, Mumbai is in a favorable position- firstly, for their superb performance level and rank and secondly, the venue is their home ground. But for final results, we still have to wait for another few hours till the last ball of the match is hit.
