PREVIEW: KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS IN IPL 2012 FINAL

Since the starting of Indian Premier League in 2008, Kolkata Knight Riders have been longing for this day to come when they will play in the IPL Final and grab the prestigious IPL championship title. Finally the team is on the way to fulfil their dream in IPL 2012 and they will achieve this coveted title once they defeat Chennai Super Kings in the final on May 27, 2012.

The final match of this IPL has been scheduled at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai and the match will start at 8.00 PM IST. After a glamorous and colorful inaugural ceremony, this stadium once more ready with the same excitement and thrill to host the IPL 2012 Final. Kolkata team is already in Chennai and is ready to fulfil their dream.

In all these years, this team has gone through many incidents and the most important among them was when Captain Saurav Ganguly had been replaced by Gautam Gambhir before IPL 2011. It really took a toll on the team’s mental strength because many supporters set back their support from this team as Saurav is an iconic figure in Bengal. However, this year, Kolkata has won back hearts of many supporters once more with their impressive performance throughout the league matches. Out of the 16 league matches, this team won 10 matches and retained the second position in the Points Table which smoothened their way to the playoffs. In the Qualifier 1 match, when Kolkata confronted table topper Delhi Daredevils in Pune ground, Kolkata boys smashed Delhi in a fabulous way and moved to the final.

In that match, they batted first and left Delhi to chase 162. Throughout this tournament, Captain Gambhir has been in an explosive form to give a boost to his team score. In most of the matches, he received a good partnership from either Kiwi batsman, Brendon McCullum or from South African veteran Jacques Kallis. Last night also, these three were in good strike rate with Gambhir at 200.00. Moreover, that day, Pathan finally returned to his explosive form to get 40 from 21 balls. Although this was a good score for slow wicket in Pune but for tomorrow’s match, they need to look for 190+ score. Compared to the bowling squad, the batting order is not so strong for Kolkata and so when they are looking for the IPL 2012 Championship Cup, the batting line up needs to be more consistent to get a challenging score for the opponent.

The bowling department is very strong for this team because the magical spell of Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan, Kallis, Iqbal Abdulla, Balaji and Bhatia are working fabulously. In most of the winning matches, the main credit goes to the attacking bowlers. Narine’s bowling is always a threat for the batsman and Kallis has proved himself equally competent in bat and ball. They need to show the same spells in their delivery in tomorrow’s match to push the rival to a corner like Qualifier match.

Although Kolkata is in a formidable form but after Chennai’s innings in Qualifier 2 match, it is a serious matter for Kolkata to tackle their opponent in a planned way to get the victory. With so much support and pray from the supporters, it is hopeful that this time, Kolkata will succeed. The western bookies like 32Red, Betfair, WBX and Betdaq are offering odds of 19/16, 6/5, 29/25 and 119/100 respectively on Kolkata victory.

Probable squad for Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir (C), Brendon McCullum (W), Jacques Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Laxmi Shukla, Debabrata Das, Rajat Bhatia, Sunil Narine, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Iqbal Abdulla.
