PREVIEW OF CHENNAI SUPER KINGS IN THE ELIMINATOR MATCH ON MAY 23, 2012

After getting through a tough league in this IPL 2012, Chennai Super Kings have finally made their way into the playoffs and being on the fourth position in the DLF IPL Standings 2012, they have to face the third placed team, Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match of the playoffs on May 23, 2012. This second playoff match will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore from 8.00 PM onwards.

Chennai was in full form in the last two IPL seasons and had also succeeded in getting the coveted championship title. But this year, the team is totally out of form, though it will not be wrong to say thattheir star is very strong which has paved their way into the playoffs. When everything was almost out of their way, their luck brought back everything. The tooth and nail competition started when Punjab, Rajasthan, Bangalore and Chennai started their struggle for the playoffs. When Punjab lost their last match and surprisingly Deccan defeated Rajasthan, the only existing competitor was Bangalore. Throughout the series, Bangalore has been superb and performed comparatively better than Chennai with their striking batsmen and competent bowlers. This strong team literally huffed and puffed to chase 134 against Deccan in their last match and finally lost the match putting an end to the competition for playoffs. So what everybody will call it for Chennai- it is obviously a strong star factor.

Coming to Chennai’s performance in the field in 2012 IPL, the team started this series with an embarrassing loss against Mumbai whom they will confront once more in this qualifying round. They got their first win against Deccan and the confidence gathered from this win was soon shattered when they again experienced another disappointing loss against Delhi. In this way they finally managed to get 8 victories from the 16 matches played in the league stage.

Faf du Plessis has got success in batting in most of the matches and while he appeared as one of the consistent batsmen of this team, Michael Hussey joined this team to give a good support to Plessis. In a couple of matches, Morkel and captain Dhoni have also given a big hit to the team score but till the end of the league matches, Plessis has been the best performer in bat for this team with a strike rate of 130.92. In the bowling squad, there are a good number of bowlers to deliver fiery spells for Mumbai’s top order batsmen. Jadeja, Bravo and Hilfenhaus are the assets of this team who can knock out Mumbai from the competition tomorrow to make their way towards final.

The most important thing for these teams is that the winning team in this match has to look for two successive wins to play in the final which is really tough at this stage of this tournament. On the other hand, the western bookies are offering different odds for this match and according to their prediction; Chennai has less chance to win this match with 47.61%. Some bookies such as Bwin, William Hill, Bet365 and BetFred are offering 1/1 odds on a victory for Chennai whereas Paf and Bet-at-home are offering 9/10 and 17/20 odds.

PROBABLE PLAYERS FOR CHENNAI SUPER KINGS: MS Dhoni (c & wk), Michael Hussey, Faf du Plessis / Albie Morkel,Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay,Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo,   Ravichandran Ashwin, Srikkanth Anirudha,Ben Hilfenhaus, Shadab Jakati.
