Not at all Yo! for Yo! China

Rating: 1 out of 5

I had been to a number of restaurants in Jaipur during my stay there but have not tasted such bad quality of food anywhere other than Yo! China. I have already shared my experience about Niros and Little Italy where the service was very bad, but even they maintained good quality when it came to their food. Everything that is of a lower standard in a restaurant can be forgiven but not its food, as it is the main draw of any restaurant. If Yo! China doesn’t know how to prepare Chinese cuisine, what is the need to open a Chinese restaurant in a city like Jaipur which attracts tourists from all across the world?!

I had been to Yo! China probably on the third or fourth day of my stay in Jaipur when I had already been to a number of food joints with a mixed overall experience, with one thing in common and that was that Jaipur is really good in presenting delicious preparations, no matter how small or big the food joint is. Yo! China is a big chain of restaurants in India. I had been to the Delhi outlet as well and that one is much much better than this one in Jaipur.

Coming to the restaurant directly, as one peruses the menu card; their rates will surely start burning a hole in your pocket even before you begin because this chain essentially places itself as a fast food, budget Chinese outlet in other cities. If you don’t know about the place and are there for the first time, you will probably not realize this. Ideally, places like this call for such high rates if they can offer quality service and culinary art. However, here both are at the opposite end of the spectrum. After placing our order, we waited for almost half an hour to get the order served on our table. Moreover, we kept on calling the waiter to get our glasses filled with water, but I think they are least bothered with their customers, probably due to their already famous brand name.

Our orders included very simple Chinese items that probably we all have tasted a number of times. As appetizers, we had Dry Chilly Chicken and Chicken Lollypop while for the main course we had Chicken in oyster sauce, Chicken hot garlic, Chicken Hakka Noodles, Chicken Fried Rice and American Choupsey. In a place that charges such high rates, you will obviously expect 90% chicken in lollypops rather than 40% chicken and 60% stuffing to make the size look larger that you would often find in road side outlets that cost Rs. 20 apiece. But this Yo! China outlet offers exactly those types of lollypops where you will hardly find any chicken inside. The noodles and rice barely made the cut but the American Choupsey was absolutely inedible! No color, no taste – an absolutely waste of money. The oyster sauce was too salty - another item that went waste. Thank God, the Chicken hot garlic was at least edible enough to eat with the basic but bland rice and noodles.
