No ‘sukh’ at Tansukh

Rating: 1.5 out of 5

Another restaurant in Jaipur that offers a lot of options on their menu card but proves themselves highly inefficient in preparing even basic dishes is Tansukh, situated at Himmat Nagar on Tonk Road. Though the name says Tansukh, don’t expect any kind of “sukh” at this food joint.

Entering the place with a wholesome appetite for Chinese, South Indian as well as North Indian (according to individual preference), we left the place with total disappointment after realizing that names can be really misleading. I was always very fond of South Indian cuisine no matter where I am, whereas two of my friends always have a large appetite for Chinese. So, when we heard about this place from one of the hotel staff (where we were staying), we decided to satiate our taste buds with our respective favorites.

With an average ambience with simple decor and lighting, Tansukh is not a very big restaurant in space and area. We took a corner table near the AC machine to get refreshed by the cool air coming out of the AC as the outside temperature was just killing us. One of the waiters soon approached us with a menu card and asked us about the type of drinking water we would like to have. It was peak dining hour (around 1.30 PM) but we saw only one occupied table.

As it is a vegetarian eatery, we opted for paneer preparations. For appetizers, we ordered Paneer Tikka and Chilli Potato, whereas for the main course, we ordered Paneer Butter Masala and Bajra ki Roti from their North Indian section; Babycorn with Mushroom, Chilli Paneer and Veg Noodles from their Chinese counter and Masala Dosa and Dahi vada from their South Indian section. Despite this variety, not a single item was nice, neither in look nor in taste. Every item was way too oily and the Bajra ki Roti (a traditional Rajasthani dish) was so badly prepared we couldn’t eat it - we were highly disappointed. Moreover, ingredients like mushroom and babycorn were semi-cooked and quite bland as well.
