During my stay in Rajasthan, I spent almost
a week in Jaipur. Being a super foodie, I hopped into many eating areas there
to taste the varieties of Rajput delicacies. Handi restaurant at MI
Road was one of those destinations (which according to me is the best
restaurant in Jaipur) to relish authentic North Indian and Mughlai cuisine
prepared absolutely in Rajasthani style. As it is located just opposite the
GPO, it is quite easy for tourists (like us) to find this place with such a
good landmark.
We (my friends and I) went there for lunch
on the next day after experiencing a bitter situation at Niros on the second
day of our trip. As we entered, we were stunned to see the interior décor. Very
simple but amazingly designed with indigenous Rajasthani artifacts and paintings,
the restaurant has plenty of seating arrangements to accommodate a huge number
of diners at a time. Soon after entering, a restaurant staff approached and welcomed
us in a typical Indian style uttering the word, “Namaste”. He guided us to a
4-seater table and handed a menu card to us, mentioning that day’s special
items.
It was almost 2PM and we were actually
hungry for lunch, especially when the tantalizing flavors of Mughlai dishes
were hitting our olfactory organs. We concentrated on the menu and placed our
order which included Chicken Tikka, Fish Tikka (we were lucky to receive this
item as we were there in November as this dish is only available in winter!),
the famous Jaisalmeri Laal Maas, Gatta Masala, Jeera Rice and Chicken Biriyani.
Being in Rajasthan, if you miss the taste of Laal Maas and Gatta Masala, you
will really miss a major part of the state (gastronomically speaking).
Each of these items were really amazing,
especially the Laal
Maas. Prepared with Rajathani spices, this item tasted awesome. We relaxed
and relished our meal for almost an hour. The rates were also in line with
their quality and quantity of food and their friendly service. Overall, with
food, ambience and service taken altogether, this place is surely to get a good
ranking, at least 4/5 (if not more!). If I get a chance to visit Jaipur once
again in the future, this restaurant will be a must visit place for me.
