Pune Warriors India – IPL 2012 Preview

Pune Warriors India is the youngest team in the Indian Premier League which was established in 2008 by the BCCI. This team, owned by Sahara Adventure Sports Limited, has been added in the IPL last year along with another new team Kochi Tuskers. However, this year, due to various legal issues, the IPL has terminated Kochi Tuskers from this tournament. So in IPL 2012, Pune Warriors India is the only new team to challenge the old teams.
Subrata Roy, the owner of the Sahara Group, bought this IPL team for a price of $370 million in 2010. Headed by Yuvraj Singh in 2011, the team has not given any outstanding performance in its first season. This year on February 6, when the auction for the IPL players was just about to begin, the team management gave a severe announcement withdrawing the team from IPL 5. Finally on February 16, the management board declared that this team will participate in this edition of DLF IPL with Saurav Ganguly as the captain of the team in place of Yuvraj Singh.
Along with Pune viewers, Bengali viewers will also have a soft corner for this team as the iconic figure of Bengal Saurav Ganguly is the captain of this team. The first match of Pune Warriors India is against Mumbai Indians which will be held in Mumbai. Batting coach Praveen Amre is positively content with the batting line up and former South African bowler Allan Donald is quite happy with new and efficient bowlers like Ashok Dinda and Rahul Sharma.
The squad of this team includes Sourav Gangly (Captain), Mohnish Mishra, Graeme Smith, Callum Ferguson, Mithun Manhas, Manish Pandey, Marlon Samuels, Dheeraj Jadhav, Harshad Khadiwale, Anustup Majumdar, Harpreet Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Nathan McCullum, Angelo Mathews, Luke Wright, James Hopes, Steve Smith, Raiphi Gomez, Robin Uthappa, Mahesh Rawat, Eklavya Dwivedi, Rahul Sharma, Alfonso Thomas, Murali Kartik, Ashish Nehra, Kamran Khan, Wayne Parnell, Shrikant Wagh, Ali Murtaza, Ashok Dinda, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sachin Rana and Krishnakant Upadhyay.
