Preview: 2nd Women’s Singles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

Still the same excitement and hype prevails in the tennis court when Serena Williams is there, especially when she is against another top notch tennis queen! The second semi final match in Women’s Singles in Wimbledon 2012 is between second seeded Victoria Azarenka and sixth seeded Serena Williams who are ready for an epic clash. It is for sure that Australian Open 2012 Grand Slam champion Azarenka will face a tough challenge from the American tennis star Serena Williams to be the finalist at this Wimbledon.

Giving a fabulous start to her tennis career by winning all the initial four major tournaments; Azarenka came up to No. 1 world ranking. But after that, she lost the next four tournaments, among which in two of them, she reached the final but lost the matches. These four losses in her career along with Maria Sharapova’s Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros have set her one step back in World ranking.  This year, she is in 38-4 win-loss record which is quite favorable for her to win back her lost ranking and if she wins this Grand Slam, it is for sure that she will reclaim her top position. After outsmarting unseeded quarterfinalist, Tamira Paszek in 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), she fixed her position in the next round against four times Wimbledon champion Serena Williams.

On the other side 13 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has made her way to this semi final defying all odds. In her lat match, she just simply clashed down 4th seeded Petra Kvitova in 6-3, 7-5 straight set to face second ranked tennis power Azarenka. The American has returned from a serious injury and once more she is back in full form and strength in this tournament to reign in women’s tennis world. Although she is a former World No 1 but her strokes and overall game still looks solid and unbeaten. In this semi-final she is facing the second ranked tennis personality but she still seems like No. 1 and from her level of performance so far in this tournament, it is expected that she will play like the top seed.

Moreover, history is in favour of this American because in their earlier head to head meetings, all the matches were in favour Serena Williams except one. These two formidable ladies have encountered eight times, of which Azarenka won only one match. However, keeping her favorable history aside, Williams admitted that the second seeded Belarusian.
