Euro 2012 Final: Spain Vs Italy - Preview

Finally almost a month long major football tournament is nearing its end. Started with 16 teams from four groups, A, B, C and D, each group representing four teams, the tournament is now at its end with two teams, Spain and Italy, both from Group C. These two teams will compete in the UEFA Euro 2012 Final at Olympic Stadium, Kiev on July 1 at 18.45 hours GMT for the championship title. Before the match, the stadium will host a spectacular and glamorous closing ceremony which will start at 4.45 hours GMT.

Being from the same group, both the teams have confronted each other in their group stage match and the battle ended in 1-1 score line. In rest of their matches against other opponents, both the teams were at their best to make their way to this final which is expected to be a classic and exciting match. So the entire football world is waiting to experience a superb match this Sunday.

Spain, at present the most powerful name in football world is on their last step to create another record in the football history. After winning Euro 2008 followed by World Cup 2010, Spain is just one step away to achieve three championship titles in a row. So far in the football history, West Germany was the only team to reach three successive finals but managed to win only two championship titles. So for the defending Spaniards, this is a golden opportunity to create a record. But Spaniard Coach Vicente del Bosque and his boys are not ready to concentrate on any other thing at the moment. Their only focus is to outsmart Italy in Euro 2012 final. Although the team has fixed a spot in the final, but their campaign in this tournament was not so impressive. In most of the matches, they seemed to be defenseless. The only in-form performance was exposed in the matches against underrated Ireland and France. In the semi-final also, Spain has to struggle throughout the 90 minutes to make a goal through Portuguese defense but ended the match in 0-0. Finally a tie breaker made their way to the final. The only player in limelight is Andres Iniesta who was impressive in all the matches and was the only scorer in the group stage match against Italy. Moreover, La Roja's out of form performance enforced del Bosque to replace him with Fabregas, though this replacement did not work perfectly in the match against Italy. The other stars in this tournament are Sergio Ramos, Xavi and Torres. Again, the Spaniards are facing debate about their number of passes although they are quite confident with their style and tactics to defy the Italian squad.

Without any outstanding performance in the tournament, the Italians gradually progressed in this tournament and got success in each and every round through their steady and consistent playing strategy. In the long Euro history, Italy has once cherished the championship title in 1968 and in 2000, they became the runner up. Now in 2012, they have another chance to win the championship title when they have superbly put an end to the unstoppable Germans in the semifinal to set a match against Spain in the final. In this tournament, they have defended each of their opponents maintaining dominance although most of the group stage matches, they have ended in draw. These men in blue were in full form and aggressive against Germans in the semi final and the entire football world is expecting another such outstanding performance in the final to defy France. All the eyes will be on Pirlo and Rossi to see how Pirlo tackles Xavi in the midfield and Rossi along with Pirlo hammers French goalpost. Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci make a fine combination all across the field to form a good attack and defense while Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli have also improved their skills to stand out in the field.

When the entire football is in one thought, who will win Euro 2012 championship title; the bookies have started offering various odds for various outcomes. For another championship title for the World Champion, bookies like Paddy Power, William Hill, Betfred, Bet365 and Betvictor are offering 11/10 while Ladbrokes and Coral are offering 1. On the other hand, for a historic win in Italian side, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Bet365 and Coral are offering 3, William Hill, Betfred and Betvictor are offering 11/4, 5/2 and 31/10 respectively. For a draw score line, all are offering 11/5 except Paddy Power and William Hill who are offering 9/4 and 21/10 respectively.
