Olympic 2012: Women’s football- United States Vs France

Only a few days more to go and then London Olympics 2012 will start with its historical glamour and excitement. With 36 different types of games and sports, this year’s Olympics will start on July 25, 2012. On the inaugural day, there will be six matches in Women’s football category. All the six groups, each having four teams, in this category will play their group stage matches on the day to come out with the teams for the playoffs.  While the first match of the day is between Group E teams: host nation Great Britain and New Zealand, the second match is between Group G teams, United States and France. This match will be played at Hampden Park and it will commence at 17.00 hours GMT.

In Group G, there are four teams: France, United States of America, North Korea and Columbia. This is the fifth year that this event Women’s Football is going to be held in the Olympics. In those four previous occasions, USA won gold three times, in 1996, 2004 and 2008. In 2000, they ended up with silver being the runner up as Norway topped the event winning gold. This year, USA is the only team from this group which had been in the top four in all the earlier occasions. In the last eight, the Group G topper will play against the third ranked country from Group E and Group F.

In their first group stage match, France is facing the almighty USA. But France is not an underdog because in 2011 Fifa Women’s World Cup, France ended up as a semi finalist and their appearance in the Fifa semi final has paved their way to this London Olympics. In the earlier part of 2012, France won the Cyprus Cup which has added a feather to their level of performance and potentiality to take up any challenge.  Coach Bruno Bini who is responsible for this team since 2007 has worked hard with her girls to achieve this position. They are now quite confident to keep up their winning stream by defeating USA.

The only adjective that can be used to describe the USA Women’s football team is Olympic Champions. They became the champions three times and are in very good form to be the champion once more in this Olympics. They played in the pre Olympics qualifying matches in an impressive way. Moreover, recently in the Concacaf Championship, they won all the five matches scoring 31 goals but did not concede any goal from the opponent’s side. Finally in the final, Canada was beaten up by them in 4-0. So with such rate of performance, they have been in this Olympics and are looking forward to defy France to move on with their campaign.

Olympic 2012: Women’s football- Great Britain Vs New Zealand

Just a few days to go and the Olympics 2012 will grab the attention of the entire world. Starting on July 25, 2012, this event will continue till August 12, 2012 featuring three dozen games. On the first day of this historic sports event, a set of women’s football matches have been scheduled and the first one is between the host country, Great Britain and New Zealand which will be played at the Millennium Stadium. This match will start at 16.00 hours GMT.

In Group E, besides the host nation, there are three more countries, New Zealand, Cameroon and Brazil. Brazil has always been placed in the top four positions in this category in previous four occasions. But they have never won the Olympics gold. In 2004 and 2008, they won the silver being the runners up team and in 2000 and 1996, they occupied the fourth position. However, this time they are the only team in this group to end the Olympics as a No. 4 team.

Among these four teams, the winner of this group will be in the quarter finals to play against the third qualifier from Group F and Group G. Great Britain’s Women’s Football team is participation in this event for the first time and since they are the host nation, they got an easy entry in this event without going through any qualifying round. This team has reached the playoffs of Fifa Women’s World Cup in 2011 and lost to France in that round. But in recent times, this team has been playing quite impressively to create some marking in this Olympics. The team coach Hope Powell is quite confident with her team and she is hopeful that in the inaugural match, England will maintain their dominance over the New Zealand to prevail over them.

On the other hand, the Kiwis are comparatively in a leading position with respect to England on the basis of their earlier appearances in this sports event. In 2008, New Zealand Women’s Football team participated in the Olympics for the first time and they ended their campaign from the group stage with a single point from a draw match against Japan. This time they played the pre-Olympic qualifying match against Papua New Guinea and defeated their opponents in an outstanding way in 15-0 score line to make their way to London Olympics 2012. Sarah Gregorius became the star of the match scoring three goals. The Kiwi Coach Tony Readings is happy with his team girls and is looking forward to be the group topper.

The Dark Knight Rises – The Preview You’ve Been Waiting For!

The Dark Knight Rises is probably the biggest action film this year is going to see. Like the previous two in the series, this movie also has a serious and grave undertone, paving the way for a serious action-packed extravaganza. The Dark Knight Rises will be creating new goals for forthcoming movies in the superhero genre.

The director of The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan has done an excellent job in assembling a fitting finale and recalls most of the villains that featured in the previous two editions. The director has successfully toyed with the ideas of terrorism and the collapse of the economy of the nation and beautifully merged them in the movie.

The main villain in the movie is Bane, well played by Tom Hardy. Bane is a French revolutionary from the 18th century who dreams to unite the people against the police and the capitalists. He believes that these men of power have been suppressing the masses for a long time.

The movie starts where The Dark Knight, ended. Gotham city is still trying to recover from the shock of the alleged “murder” of Harvey Dent by Batman. This results in the arrest of many criminals in Gotham. However, there is no trace of Batman. Bearded Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) portrays a sorry picture, as he roams around with the help of a stick, still suffering from the injuries suffered at the hands of Ras Al Ghul, Scarecrow and Joker (first 2 parts). It seems that he has finally decided to hang up the Batman suit forever.

He is, however, forced to change his decision with the entry of Bane (Tom Hardy). Bane is a mercenary and wears a mask that provides him with pain-killing drugs. Batman makes a mistake and leads Bane to the “clean-energy device” at Wayne Enterprises. Bane transforms to a nuclear gadget and blows up all the tunnels and bridges in the city, converting Gotham City into a prison.

This is when Cat (Anne Hathaway) appears. Like Wayne, she has a past. She was a super con-woman who has the distinction of having conned Bruce Wayne. Bruce is so inspired with her skills that he offers her the Catwoman suit, which she gladly accepts. And when Bane threatens Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and a cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) along with a mystery woman (Marion Cotillard), Cat woman joins forces with the Batman to bring down Bane.

The greatest moment in the movie is probably when Batman and Bane face-off against each other. Tom Hardy brings Bane to life with his larger-than-life persona and hushed voice. Christian Bale has brought out the inner demons of the Batman perfectly, surpassing even the last two movies. The Dark Knight truly “rises” and all the credit goes to Christian Bale.

There are a few weak links in the movie. However, this seems to be the trend for all superhero flicks and can be ignored. Whether the Dark Knight Rises will be the greatest superhero action movie made till date remains to be seen, but it is possible with its larger than life characters, extraordinary graphics, sensational action sequences, brilliant acting and above all, almost-seems-like-real Gotham City. Regardless, this movie is a must-watch for all Batman fans.

Preview: England-South Africa 1st Test

After completing the NatWest series in 4-0 score line against world’s leading team, Australia, England is in full swing to prevail over the next series against South Africa. The series will start with a 5-day test match which will be followed by two more test matches, five one day international matches and three T20 matches. The first test match will start on July 19, 2012 and will continue till July 23 and it will be held at Kennington Oval, London.

Being at the home soil, England is enjoying the advantages of home ground but this time, they are against the Proteas who are aiming to lead this series to become the world’s top ranked test cricket team. The team is at present in a depressed condition as their veteran Mark Boucher was severely injured when the bail of the wicket stuck in his eyes while he was behind the wicket. This accident ended his international career as he suddenly declared his retirement after the injury. This took a heavy toll on the team spirit. They will surely miss their veteran wicket keeper Mark Boucher who has been one of the biggest strengths of the team so far.

While on one hand, Boucher’s sudden declaration regarding retirement left the team in no man’s land, on the other side, there is a doubt about the presence of Alviro Petersen whose foot injury may set him out of the team in the first test match. He is one of the most dependable opening partners in the team whose absence will create another disruption in the team. In the midst of such serious injury worries, pacer Marchant de Lange is not in his form.

Entire England is almost ready to celebrate the victory of the next series after NatWest because it is readable from their body language that they are underrating the Proteas. However, there is a high probability for a win in English squad unless the South African Captain Graeme Smith and his team play fabulously to get a victory in this opening test.

The ambiance in South African green room may be subdued but they are not a depleted squad. They know that emotional sentiments is in one side and in the cricket field, they have to do their business forgetting all emotions and sentiments. They are ready to give their best to win this test because they wish to play this match for Mark Boucher.

While there are some serious injury worries in Proteas squad, England is hopeful to get back their veteran spinner, Graeme Swann in the first match who is out of the team for a long time due to elbow injury.

Preview: England Vs Australia at 5th ODI of NatWest series

Started on June 29, 2012, the NatWest series 2012 is at its end with England at 3-0 score line against Australia after playing four matches. Among the four matches, one match was cancelled due to rain and today, the last and final ODI will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester. The match will commence at 13.00 hours GMT.

From the present statistics, it is seen that Australian squad is totally deflated and in this last match, they are trying to prevail over England to retrieve some pride. English squad is in full swing to win every match and their dominance over the Australian contingent is quite clear from their performance. Moreover, the visiting coach of Australia, Mickey Arthur is also doubtful about the performance level of the Australian boys who are presently in World No. 1 team. He also mentioned that his team has been devastated by the fabulous performance of England.

The batting and bowling squad of England knocked down their opponents in every way and Coach Arthur is still not sure about the missing element among his team boys which is continuously putting them out of the track. There are various things that Australians are lacking and the most important is their bowling line up. Although there are half a dozen efficient bowlers in a team of 11, but they could not give their best to upset the host team at their home ground. Besides the bowling squad, Australian batting has been miserable in this tournament. Barring from David Hussey and Michael Clarke, none of the players could stand in front of English bowlers which is really shocking and embarrassing for world’s top team.

Starting from the first match, the margin of defeat started increasing gradually. So although the tournament is in England’s favor, but Aussie boys are gunning to get at least one win to pull up their confidence for the forthcoming tournaments. After Michael Clarke took up the responsibility as the Captain of Australian team, this is his first series loss but a 4-0 loss will seriously be a big discredit for his captaincy, especially when he is standing at the verge of 1 year of his captaincy.

With a number of injury worries with Shane Watson and Brett Lee, it seems that fortune is not favoring the Australian team this time. So in this final NatWest match, while England is looking for their 10th ODI win in a row with a few changes in their team, there is a major reshuffle in the Australian side. The opening duo plays an important role in any cricket match and so for a steady partnership, Matthew Wade will be paired up with Steven Smith in today’s match. While many Aussie supporters are hoping for a lucky debut day for their team, the sky is not in good mood to fulfil their wish as the weather forecast suggests a heavy shower.

Preview: Women’s Singles Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

American tennis queen Serena Williams and Polish tennis star Agnieszka Radwanska in Wimbledon 2012 Final! This one sentence is enough to draw attention of the entire tennis world at All England Club. After missing a number of tournaments in recent times, Serena William is once more back to reclaim his former World no. 1 position. After defeating second seeded Victoria Azarenka in the semi final of this tournament, Serena Williams reached the final for the seventh time on this grass court for the Wimbledon. Third seeded Polish lady, Agnieszka Radwanska booked the first spot in the final before Williams when she outsmarted German tennis star Angelique Kerber.

After knocking down the eight seeded Kerber in the semi final, Radwanska called for a straight set victory in 6-3, 6-4 score line. After beating the German, Radwanska became the first Polish woman to reach the Wimbledon final in last 75 years. This was also the first ever semi final for her on grass court where she too only 70 minutes to put an end to Germany’s dream of making their maiden appearance in Wimbledon Final. In the first set, Radwanska made a 5-3 lead which was luckily achieved due to two backhand errors made by her opponent. While she broke three break point opportunities, Kerber only managed to do one. The second set was fully error strewn from Kerber which allowed break to Radwanska during the fifth game. Finally Kerber got her final opportunity during a break point but she failed to take advantage of the opportunity and ended the match with a bizarre loss. But luck is probably not in favor of the Polish because after making all this way to her maiden appearance in Wimbledon final, she is now in front of the most powerful opponent, Serena Williams. In head to head statistics, Williams is leading by 2-0. So based on this record and Williams superb form after come back, Radwanska is severely under pressure.

Serena Williams on the other hand, after getting her most deserved win in the semi final against Azarenka in 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) score line, she is now in the final to achieve her seventh Wimbledon Grand Slam. This 13th time Grand Slam champion American lady, although placed in No. 6, she seems to be in No. 1 due to her devastating and aggressive performance. Facing a tough challenge from Australian Open 2012 Champion, Williams just smashed her to fix a meeting against the third seed.  Radwanska seems to be simply an underdog in front of Williams but the way both of them played in the semi final illustrates their individual potential to be the Wimbledon Queen this time. So the final match will be an extremely interesting and exciting one when these two will battle for the championship title.

Preview: 2nd Men’s Doubles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

While the first match in Men’s doubles has drawn much attention because of the presence of the second seeded Bryan brothers who are aiming for their third Wimbledon Grand Slam, the second match is also an important match between the Swedish-Romanian tandem, Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau and the Austrian-German pair, Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner. The Swedish-Romanian duo slammed their Italian-Austrian opponent, Daniele Bracciali and Julian Knowle in the quarter final to move up to the next stage to set a match against Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner. In the other match of the last eight of Wimbledon men’s doubles, the Austrian-German pair knocked down their Brazilian-Croatian rival, 15th seeded Melo and Dodig.

The fifth seeded Swedish-Romanian allowed their rival to make just 10 games in the one hour 40 minutes long match, which they finally ended in 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 straight set victory. Initially, both the sides were playing maintaining a level with 2-2 scores. Lindstedt and Tecau finally prevailed over the fifth round and ended the first set in 6-4. Similar to the first set, the second set also started with a 1-1 score, after which the Swedish-Romanian pair got through the third and fifth game to call for a 5-1 lead. Then Bracciali and Knowle made it to their side in the seventh game to reduce the gap to 2-5. But when they failed to pull any break, they ended the set in 2-6. After winning the first two set, the duo became more powerful in the third set but the competition became more challenging and tough when the attack from the opponent side became stronger. At one point, the game was leveled at 4-4 but after that they ended the game in 6-4 lead to book a position in the final four.

Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner on the other hand made their way into the semi final round after slamming a 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win against Dodig and Melo. This pair is a strong opponent for the Swedish-Romanian tandem because in their earlier Wimbledon encounter, the result was not in favor of Lindstedt and Tecau. In Wimbledon 2010 final, the Swedish-Romanian were beaten up by Melzer and Petzschner and remained contended with the runner up title. In Wimbledon 2011, the same thing happened but that time the winner was Bryan brothers. So this is a crucial match for Lindstedt and Tecau to make their way into the final but Melzer and Petzschner are ready to repeat the same history once more.

The semi final matches are going around in full fledge on the grass court in Wimbledon 2012 and now the court is ready for the two semi final matches in Men’s Doubles round. The first match is between Bryan brothers and Frederik Nielsen-Jonathan Marray. After ousting the unseeded American tandem, Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram in the quarter final in 5-7, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, the compatriots Bryan brothers, Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan made their way to the semi final to set a match against the British-Danish duo, Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen. This British-Danish duo has made their way to the semi final after defeating James Cerretani and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter final in 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (3-7), 2-6, 6-2.

Jonathan Marray is the first British tennis star to be in the Wimbledon semi final in doubles category after Mark Cox in 1977. He along with his Danish partner Frederik Nielsen has made all his way to this semi final for the first time after 1977. So it is not only a pleasure for his nation but also a ray of hope to become a Grand Slam doubles champion. This tandem has been playing since last three tournaments and is superb on the court for their superb co-ordination and mutual consistency. After entering this tournament as a wild card contestant, this pair has continued till this stage just riding on their hard work. In this journey, apart from getting a straight set win in the second round against Frank Moser and Ivo Karlovic, they have always called for a win after playing five sets matches. Now after struggling against a number of unseeded opponents, this duo is finally in front of the top rated Bryan brothers who are the favorable in this match and also in this tournament.

The second placed American twins lost their last Grand Slam at Roland Garros this summer and after losing that much coveted crown, they are eyeing on the crown on this grass court. In their run to this round, they took 2 hours and 46 minutes to prevail over their American opponentin the quarter final round. The struggle was not so easy for the winning duo because their rival, although unseeded, played impressively to upset the Bryan brothers. Although this Bryan tandem is the most successful doubles partner but they are well aware of the upcoming challenge from Marray-Nielsen who are ready to throw a tough challenge to make their maiden appearance in the Wimbledon final.

Preview: 2nd Men’s Singles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

The grass court is ready, the lines have been marked and now All England Club is waiting to welcome its four semi finalists to book two spots in the final. When most of the attention has been drawn in the first semi final match where two top rated maestros, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are competing to get into the final, the second match is between fourth and fifth ranked Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga respectively. This is the fourth time in a row that Murray is appearing in Wimbledon semi final and this time second placed Rafael Nadal is not in his way to put an end to his run. While Nadal’s absence is like a blessing for Murray in this tournament, Tsonga has also got an easy way to the semi final because of Nadal’s early elimination.

While making his way to this semi final, Andy Murray has been looking for a spot in the final to become the first man from Great Britain to be in Wimbledon final after Bunny Austin in 1938. This Scottish smashed down the seventh seeded David Ferrer in 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to fix a spot in the semi final against this French. However, this win against Ferrer was not an easy one for him. Now while Murray is making his fourth straight appearance in the Wimbledon semi final, for Tsonga, it is his second appearance. These two stars have met six times in different events but for them this upcoming meeting is the biggest one at a major tournament. In their earlier encounters, Murray leads in 5-1 over Tsonga and this single win for the Frenchman came in Australian Open 2008 in the first round. Murray on the other hand has got four of his five victories in a row. On this grass court, they met twice and Murray won both the matches, one of which was Wimbledon 2010.

The French star, Tsonga has made his way to this round after defeating 27th ranked Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarter final. He is well known for his flamboyance in the court, he is an unpredictable contender in this tournament who can either expose an impressive and aggressive performance or can end up the match with a fault strewn performance. At this stage of this tournament, he is feeling a bit pressure to compete with the top rated contenders to book a place in the last round. Like Murray, he is also looking for a Grand Slam crown for his nation because in 1983, France got its last Grand Slam from Yannick Noah.

Preview: 1st Men’s Singles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

The four quarter final matches in Men’s singles category of Wimbledon 2012 have come up with the four semi finalists and they are now ready to battle for a post in the final. The first semi final match in this category is between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. This is the 27th time they are facing each other in their Grand Slam career. But for them, this is the not only the first meeting on any event grass court but also their first match in Wimbledon history which can be surely considered as a historic encounter.

In the quarter final round, third seeded Roger Federer knocked down his Russian opponent, Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets in 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 score line. Although in this match, the Swiss Maestro has got an effortless win, but in the last couple of rounds, he had to struggle to make his way to this semi final. In the third round, he was almost at the verge of getting out of this tournament when French star Julien Benneteau upset him in all the five sets. But now he seems to be in full swing to get over the Serbian rival. In their earlier 26 encounters, Federer is in a leading position with 14-12 lead. Federer is a marvelous on clay court and he has also proved his ability on grass court. But it is to see now how these two legendary tennis stars, who have ditched the other one many times on clay and hard court, work on this grass court. However this Swiss star was knocked out of the tournament from the semi final round in French Open 2012 when the Serbian ousted him in straight set. Moreover, in recent times, this third seeded has hardly managed to get any win against this top ranked Djokovic.

On the other, after missing the Grand Slam championship title at Roland Garros, top seeded Djokovic is gunning this time to get his second Wimbledon title. This year, so far, he has just won one Grand Slam title at Australian Open. After getting a straight set victory, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 in the quarter final against Florian Mayer, Djokovic has set a match against Federer in the semi final. When this Serbian is in the court, there is always elegance in the atmosphere. His maestro strokes along with the superb consistency level always bring an easy win for him. So here is a big challenge for him to prevail over six times Wimbledon champion Federer because this win will retain his World No.1 ranking till next Wimbledon but if the Swiss manages it, then he will again get back his lost top ranking.

Preview: 2nd Women’s Singles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

Still the same excitement and hype prevails in the tennis court when Serena Williams is there, especially when she is against another top notch tennis queen! The second semi final match in Women’s Singles in Wimbledon 2012 is between second seeded Victoria Azarenka and sixth seeded Serena Williams who are ready for an epic clash. It is for sure that Australian Open 2012 Grand Slam champion Azarenka will face a tough challenge from the American tennis star Serena Williams to be the finalist at this Wimbledon.

Giving a fabulous start to her tennis career by winning all the initial four major tournaments; Azarenka came up to No. 1 world ranking. But after that, she lost the next four tournaments, among which in two of them, she reached the final but lost the matches. These four losses in her career along with Maria Sharapova’s Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros have set her one step back in World ranking.  This year, she is in 38-4 win-loss record which is quite favorable for her to win back her lost ranking and if she wins this Grand Slam, it is for sure that she will reclaim her top position. After outsmarting unseeded quarterfinalist, Tamira Paszek in 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), she fixed her position in the next round against four times Wimbledon champion Serena Williams.

On the other side 13 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has made her way to this semi final defying all odds. In her lat match, she just simply clashed down 4th seeded Petra Kvitova in 6-3, 7-5 straight set to face second ranked tennis power Azarenka. The American has returned from a serious injury and once more she is back in full form and strength in this tournament to reign in women’s tennis world. Although she is a former World No 1 but her strokes and overall game still looks solid and unbeaten. In this semi-final she is facing the second ranked tennis personality but she still seems like No. 1 and from her level of performance so far in this tournament, it is expected that she will play like the top seed.

Moreover, history is in favour of this American because in their earlier head to head meetings, all the matches were in favour Serena Williams except one. These two formidable ladies have encountered eight times, of which Azarenka won only one match. However, keeping her favorable history aside, Williams admitted that the second seeded Belarusian.

Preview: 1st Women’s Singles Semi Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

After a series of exciting and challenging quarter final matches played among the tennis queens, the four semi-finalists are now ready to rock their semi final matches in this tournament. The first semi final match in Women’s Singles category is between Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber. The third ranked Radwanska is in full form to take over eighth seeded Kerber to make a golden period in tennis for her country.

Agnieszka Radwanska is the first tennis queen from Poland to step into the Grand Slam semi final when she knocked down her Russian opponent, Maria Kirilenko in 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 score line in the quarter final to fix a spot in the semi final round. This win over the 17th ranked Russian has brought an end to her four years long frustration and has also helped her to regain her lost confidence. Since Wimbledon 2008, she has suffered eight losses in a row in different Grand Slam quarter finals which includes Wimbledon 2009, and three losses in Australian Open. So finally she has come out of the Grand Slam quarter final spell in this tournament to face the German lady for a position in the final.  In her way to this quarter final, she has not missed a single set but in the last eight, she lost the second set but finally sealed the third one to get through this error strewn match. The match took 7 and ½ hours to complete as it was delayed due to rain.

On the other hand, Angelique Kerber ousted her compatriot fifteenth seeded Sabine Lisicki in the quarter final in 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 set to set a match against third seeded Polish. Kerber is in full swing in this tournament and the way, she clashed down top seeded Maria Sharapova is something that can upset Radwanska in the upcoming match. Her consistency in the court is helping her to win these matches in a row. She has continued her campaign in this tournament with minimal errors. But surprisingly both these semi finalists, Radwanska and Kerber have lost one set during their quarter final match to set a meeting between the duo in the next round.

In their earlier encounters, they are tied in 2-2 and when they met the last time in Tokyo in 2011, the match was in favour of Radwanska where she won all the three sets. Both are equally competent to call for a position in the final but although Radwanska is the favorite in this match, Kerber’s superb form in the last few matches reveals that she is the only deserving candidate.

Preview: 3rd Men’s Doubles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

The third match of the Men’s Doubles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012 is between Marcelo Melo and Ivan Dodig, a Brazilian-Croatian tandem and Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner, an Austrian German pair. This match will come up with the third pair for the semi final round in men’s doubles category on grass court. In their last round when they got qualified for the last eight, both the sides have struggled for a win in their respective matches through a roller coaster path.

The Brazilian-Croatian pair reached the quarter final after defeating Indo-Czech pair, Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek in 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (2-6), 8-6 score line. The match was interrupted due to rain and was suspended till the next day. Dodig and Melo were in a leading position by 4-6, 6-3, 4-3 when the match was stopped on Monday evening. Later suspension was declared and the match resumed on Tuesday. But again due to rain, the match was delayed by an hour and when the contenders returned, the Indo-Czech pair came back on track and ended the fourth set in a tie breaker. They were in full swing in that round but later, Peas served in an erroneous way where Melo took the advantage and delivered a high raised volley which brought them a 4-1 lead. But they failed to maintain it as their opponent bounced back in the battle to level the game. Through these ups and downs, finally Melo and Dodig managed to return in full swing after the second rain interruption on Tuesday and called for a winning match to be in the quarter final at All England Club.

On the other hand, to compete with the 15th seeded Melo and Dodig for the semi final position, Austrian German pair, Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner defeated their third round Uzbekistan-Russian opponent, Denis Istomin and Mikhail Elgin in 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (9-11), 16-14 score line. The rain interrupted match finally came in the hands of the tenth seeded tandem; who is the US Open doubles Grand Slam champions. Now in the quarter final round, it will not be an easy game for both the sides to reign over the other because both are equally competent to book a spot in the next round. Based on the world ranking, the Uzbekistan-Russian pair is the favorite. But when both the sides have ended their last battle in an error-strewn way, there is a 1:1 chance for both the sides to be in the semi final.

Preview: 2nd Men’s Doubles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

While the singles category has moved to its semi final round, the doubles category is still waiting to come up with its semi finalists. The first match of the Men’s Doubles quarter final has already been played between British Danish duo Jonathan Marray - Frederik Nielsen and James Cerretani- Edouard Roger-Vasselin where the British Danish pair came out as a winner to fix the first position in the semi final of Wimbledon 2012’s men’s doubles. The second match is between Romanian-Swedish pair, Horia Tecau-Robert Lindstedt and Daniele Bracciali-Julian Knowle.

In their third round match the Romanian-Swedish pair, Horia Tecau-Robert Lindstedt maintained a superb partnership to prevail over Belgium partners Olivier Rochus and Steve Darcis on last Tuesday. They have ruled the match and got a straight set victory in 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (4) score line in just two hours and 11 minutes which paved their way straight to the last eight of All England Club. Initially, the match was 1-1 when each of the sides were holding their respective opening serves but as the match progressed, Tecau and Lindstedt started to dictate the match and ended the third game with 3-1 lead. Rochus and Darcis failed to bounce back and their opponent sealed the first set in 6-4. The fourth seeded duo, Tecau and Lindstedt smashed six aces and ended the second set without any double fault. With 79% first serve, grabbing 22 points, the tandem played an almost flawless match without an unforced error.

In the third set, they were more brilliant but their opponent bounced back and leveled their scores at 6-6 which led their match to a tie breaker.  Later Tecau and Lindstedt made a mini break which moved them to 3-1. After smashing two powerful volleys, they moved ahead by 5-2 when Rochus and Darcis won both the points and reduced the gap to 4-5. However, Romanian-Swedish pair made the final shot which delivered them two good points to call for a win in 7-6 (4).

They ended the game with 3 aces and 22 points to set a match against Austrian-Italian tandem, Daniele Bracciali and Julian Knowle. In the other match of the third round, they played fabulously with superb consistency between the duo to defeat J.Chela and E. Schwank in straight set victory in 7-5, 7-5, 6-1 score line. This win has made their way to the quarter final where they will face this fourth seeded pair. Unlike the third round match this will be a challenging game for this unseeded pair, Daniele Bracciali and Julian Knowle.

Preview: 4th Men’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

The last match in Men’s Singles category in the quarter final round is between fifth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany. The French has made his way in this final eight after defeating tenth seeded America’s Mardy Fish in four sets. In 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4 score line, Tsonga called for his win over Fish. On the other side, German star, Kohlschreiber put an end to Brian Baker’s remarkable campaign in this tournament in the fourth round when he ousted him in 6-1, 7-6, 6-3 set. This win has guaranteed his position in the quarter final against Tsonga.

In this match, Tsonga is surely the favorite because of his almost flawless form. Although he has made a comparatively smooth run in this tournament so far, he is sure about the tough challenge that he is likely to face from Kohlschreiber who is in full swing to get in to the semi final. Even his last match was not an easy one where he ended the match in one hour twenty minutes to fix his position in the next round. Even in last year’s Wimbledon, these two met when Tsonga needed five sets to prevail over Fish.

Kohlschreiber on the other side took nearly two hours to oust his fourth round rival and now he is gunning to reach the semi final after clashing down Tsonga. Although in their earlier six encounters, he has only managed to win one match against him but this time, the match can be in German side because of his superb form throughout and also an important factor, his luck. Keeping apart all contenders in one side, the only person who has been highly benefited due to Nadal’s early return from this tournament is Kohlschreiber. As Nadal left the tournament in the second round, the German was relieved from facing the tennis giant and this has given him a smooth way to make his way to this round.

Along with Florian Mayer, Kohlschreiber is making a new tennis history for their country. On the other side in Women’s Singles, two Germans ended their meeting with Angelique Kerber making his way to the next round. So this can be considered as a golden time for Germany in tennis world after Boris Becker and Steffi Graf. It will be not be an easy task for Kohlschreiber to defy Tsonga but the way he has played in his last match without missing a single serve is a matter to worry for the French who has recently returned from the quarter final round in French Open 2012.

Preview: 3rd Men’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

While the other quarter final matches of the day have been scheduled between one of the top ten rated players and relatively underrated player, the third match of the day is the most challenging match in the quarter final level where both the contenders are in top ten tanking. Andy Murray and David Ferrer are ready to battle to move into next round. Fourth seeded Murray knocked down his Croatian opponent, Marin Cilic in the fourth round to make his way into the quarter final where Ferrer was waiting for him to battle for the next round, who got qualified for this last eight after defeating ninth seeded Juan Martin del Potro in the same round.

Andy Murray of Great Britain has so far played a superb form to make his way to this stage of this tournament but has not faced any such tough challenge. In his last match, he outsmarted Cilic in 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 score line to call for a straight set victory. On the other hand, Ferrer also thrashed Potro in 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 score line to get a straight set win. Now when these two are confronting each other in their 11th meeting, both are very ambitious for the Grand Slam title because Nadal is a history in this tournament and the only two tough competitors are Djokovic and Federer. So both are looking ahead to knock down the other one to inch their position in the next round. Although both have faced 11 times earlier but this is their maiden meeting in grass court. The head to head result is a neutral one with 5-5 outcome. So it is quite hard to make one favorite in this match. However, in their last meeting in French Open 2012 quarter final, the seventh seeded Spaniard took over Murray in 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2. Moreover, while Murray has returned from the semi final round in the past three Wimbledon, Ferrer has made his maiden appearance in the Wimbledon quarter final this time and also it can be considered as the last opportunity for Ferrer to make a record in his tennis career by winning this Grand Slam title because he is already at 30.

Both the contenders have given an in-form performance in this tournament and so both will face a tough challenge from the other side to get through. While Ferrer is trying to get the Wimbledon crown to make another record for his country like his compatriot Nadal, Murray is craving for the title to become the only player after Fred Perry to win the Wimbledon Grand Slam. Years back, in 1936, Great Britain got this title when Fred Perry won it.

Preview: 2nd Men’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

Four Men’s Singles quarter final matches in one day! Excitement and tension everywhere in the atmosphere and amidst such environment, the second match of the day will host third seeded Roger Federer and 26th seeded Mikhail Youzhny. To get qualified in the last eight, Federer outsmarted his unseeded opponent, Xavier Malisse in the fourth round in 7-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 set to fix a match against Youzhny who made his way into the quarter final after defeating unseeded Denis Istomin in 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 score line.

Six times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is not in his usual top form in this tournament and but managed to made his way into the final eight of Wimbledon 2012. After ending the last match against the Begian, he has completed the 850th match of his career which has also given him a way to the 33rd straight Grand Slam quarter final. Now, he is looking forward to take over this Russian opponent to inch one step ahead in to the last four. This year, Federer is in a superb form and so far he has made an outstanding record of 43-6 win loss and this level of performance is giving him enough confidence to focus for his seventh Wimbledon championship title. Although in this tournament, he has not revealed his flawless form but his consistency in the grass court is something which is continuously adding feather to his career. Staying away from Grand Slam title for two years and above, Federer is still one of the favorites in this tournament to grab the championship trophy. One of the top contenders, Nadal is already out of this tournament in the second round. So Djokovic, Federer and Murray are now the top three favorites to win this Grand Slam title on grass court.

Mikhail Youzhny of Russia is no way comparable to Federer but his performance in this season is also impressive. With 23-9 win loss level of performance, Mikhail Youzhny is also a winner of a title this year although, not Grand Slam. In 2008, Youzhny moved up to eighth ranking after winning some important matches but then he became an underachiever. Last season, he missed some of the major tournaments because of injury worries but this time he has returned in full flow to dictate this tournament just like the way he used to do in 2008. In this tournament, he has ousted many top rated tennis stars and now this is a crucial match for him to prove his ability against Federer because in their earlier encounters, the result has always been in favor of the Swiss who leads with 13-0. Now in this match, Youzhny has to play his best to get his maiden victory against this third seeded.

Preview: 1st Men’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

The first quarter final round in Wimbledon 2012 for Women’s Singles category was over yesterday and it has come up with the four outstanding semifinalists. Now, today on July 4, four quarter final matches in Men’s Singles category will be played where top seeded Novak Djokovic and Florian Mayer will battle to fix a spot in the next round. In the last match, Djokovic dumped his unseeded opponent, Viktor Troicki quite easily to get in to the final eight in a straight set victory in 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. In the other match of the fourth round, 31st seeded Mayer knocked down eighteenth seeded Richard Gasquet fabulously in 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 set to set a match against World No 1 Djokovic in the quarter final.

Australian Open 2012 champion and last year’s Wimbledon Champion Djokovic missed the last Grand Slam and ended the French Open as a finalist. So after defeating his countryman Troicki, this Serbian has inched one step towards another Grand Slam. He is now just two steps away from the final to be held on this coming Sunday. In this remaining way, he has to face this German in the quarter final and then, most likely the Swiss tennis hero, Federer in the semi final. Of course if the Swiss succeeds in outsmarting his Russian opponent in the quarter final.  Djokovic and Mayer had only confronted once in 2011 in Dubai and in that meeting, Djokovic won in 7-5, 6-1 score line. Since the last two years, Djokovic has been ruling in almost every match with his impressive serves. He is the most deserving contender for this championship title along with Federer.

Compared to Djokovic, Germany’s Florian Mayer is an underdog and it is almost unexpected to see him getting qualified for the last eight of this major tournament. However, the way he has been dictating in this tournament is absolutely superb to see, especially in the last match, where he upset Gasquet to make his way in the quarter final. In 2004, at a tender age of 20, Mayer made his debut entry in the Wimbledon quarter final and that time he was in superb form to reflect a glorious career ahead. But as time progressed, he proved himself as an underachiever and this is the second time he is in Wimbledon quarter final. In this tournament, he has improved his performance level and even though Djokovic is far superior to him, there is little chance for Mayer to upset Djokovic to turn the match in his favor.

Preview: 4th Women’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

After an array of superb quarter final matches on the first day of the Women’s Singles, the last match has been scheduled on July 4, 2012 at 12.40 AM where the remaining two quarter finalists, Sabine Lisicki and Angelique Kerber will battle to fix the fourth position in the semi final.
In the last match, Sabine Lisicki played a magical game where she knocked down the French Open 2012 champion and also top seeded Maria Sharapova in a straight set victory in 6-4, 6-3 score line. This win in the fourth round has made her way to set a match against eighth seeded Angelique Kerber who has also booked a position in the quarter final by dumping Kim Clijsters in the same round. Now when both these Germans have qualified in the quarter final, it will create another record in tennis history because after 1987, this is the first time when two Germans are facing each other in a Grand Slam tournament and the common thing in both these Germans is that both have been in this round after knocking down two top rated tennis veterans.
Fifteenth seeded Sabine Lisicki did a fabulous job in her last match when she dumped Sharapova. In Wimbledon 2011, she ended her campaign as a semifinalist and in 2009, in the same grass court; she left the tournament as a quarterfinalist. But this time, after defeating the Russian veteran, she is heading to surpass her previous records in Wimbledon. Now she is in front of a co-nation opponent who is a few steps ahead in world ranking. Moreover, in their earlier four encounters, Kerber had always come out as a winner and two of these victories came this year only. So this will surely be a tough match for Lisicki but her last match’s performance will give her enough strength and confidence to take up any challenge to continue her Wimbledon 2012 campaign.
Kim Clijsters has once more faced her worst defeat in Grand Slam after the French Open 2012 in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2012. When this is extremely shocking for her, Angelique Kerber is celebrating her win on the other hand as this win has inched her to the quarter final. She has got a straight set victory in 6-1, 6-1 score line. Her consistency throughout the match in the tennis court is something which sometimes remain absent in the top notch players. Her consistency helps her to tackle any tough situation. On the basis of earlier encounters, Kerber is the star of this upcoming match as she won all the earlier four encounters and with eights sets in her side but what Lisicki has done in her last match is a matter to worry for Kerber.

Preview: 3rd Women’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

Three quarter final matches in a row on the same day! It will be an exciting evening to see how the women quarterfinalists battle to move into the semi final of Wimbledon 2012. The third quarter final match is between world numbered two Victoria Azarenka and unseeded Tamira Paszek. This match will commence at 11.50PM on July 3, 2012.
Belarusian star Azarenka crushed down Ana Ivanovic in 6-1, 6-0 straight set within an hour in the fourth round to set up a match against the unseeded Australian Tamira Paszek who is on her way to maiden Grand Slam quarter final match after defeating World No. 21 Roberta Vinci in 6-2, 6-2 set. When these two youngsters, Azarenka, 22 and Paszek, 21 will encounter in the quarter final, Azarenka is in a favorite position but the way this young Austrian has outsmarted Vinci, it will be unwise to consider as an underrated any more.
After winning the Grand Slam championship title in Australian Open 2012, Azarenka ended her campaign in the second Grand Slam of the year on clay court in the fourth round when she was defeated by Dominika Cibulkova. This was a great loss for her because with this defeat she also lost her world numbered one ranking. But in this tournament, she has bounced back and is totally in form to regain her lost ranking. World No 1 Maria Sharapova is already out of the tournament and so this has given her a golden opportunity to win back her lost position and also another Grand Slam title in her tennis career. She has been just too good in the last two rounds which assure her appearance in the semi final.
It is totally a surprise, how Austrian youngster Tamira Paszek made her way to the quarter final who had only achieved two wins in this year before the Wimbledon started. With such underrated performance level, she entered this tournament and then made a silent and impressive way to the quarter final as she progressed with a winning stream. Now she has to face second seeded veteran in this round which is very crucial for her tennis career. Earlier they have confronted twice and in both the matches, the Belarusian had won over her. Moreover, in their encounters, Paszek has never managed to get a win over in any set. Also, in her tennis career, Paszek has only 1:9 win against the top five seeds. Contrary to all these records, Paszek has exposed her aggressive side in this tournament and if she again starts her backhand and forehand down the stroke, it will be a tough challenge for Azarenka.

Preview: 2nd Women’s Singles Quarter Final Match in Wimbledon 2012

As the fourth round of Women’s Singles has come up with the quarter finalists, July 3, 2012 will host three of the four quarter final matches in this category. While the first match is set between Agnieszka Radwanska and Maria Kirilenko; in the second match, Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova are ready to battle for a spot in the semi final. The second match will start at 11.10 PM.

Fourth seeded, Petra Kvitova ended her fourth round in this tournament with an impressive win against World No. 24 Francesca Schiavone. Losing the first game of the match, Kvitova finally managed to get a win against her opponent in 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 score line. This has made her to book a spot in the next round against sixth seeded Serena Williams who has qualified as a quarterfinalist after knocking down unseeded Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova in 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 set.

Czech tennis professional Petra Kvitova has ended her last two Grand Slam campaigns in the semi-final round and this is the third opportunity in the same year to win her second Grand Slam. Although this year has given her mixed results, but last year was the best year in her tennis career when she won her maiden Grand Slam title in this grass court. She has already proved her ability when she easily took the challenge of outsmarting top notch tennis players like Azarenka, Radwanska, Lisicki and Paszek in earlier encounters. But this time she is in front of legendary tennis star, Serena Williams who is well experienced in all types of courts. This is a very crucial match for her to prove her ability because there is rarely any tennis star who has taken over Serena Williams quite easily so far in Wimbledon. Her campaign in this tournament so far has been impressive but now this is the time for her to end a totally flawless.

Facing four times Wimbledon champion Serena Williams is a threat for any opponent and when she declares that she is quite fresh and relaxed to face the upcoming match, this creates more pressure for Kvitova. With her magnificent strokes, she has always been dominant in the court but in French open 2012, she has surprisingly dumped down in the first round and left the tournament. So this time she is in full form and confidence to end this tournament with a prestigious position if not her fifth Wimbledon championship title. Now her main focus is on Petra Kvitova who is the winner of last year Wimbledon. This match will surely be a superb match to watch when two former Wimbledon Champions will battle for fixing a spot in the next round.
