“Luscious Food At Decent Prices”

Mission Café (located adjacent to the chandni chowk metro station) is a place which is hard to miss. It is a fast food cum standing restaurant very famous among both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. This food joint is visited by all the commercial locale of central Kolkata. They have a vast menu which includes Chinese, North Indian, South Indian and Fast food.

It is a decent place with reasonable prices and awesome food. I have visited this place a number of times but the taste of their food remains unchanged in the last twenty years – a truly amazing level of consistency! The staff is very courteous and attentive. The service is generous and fast. The only drawback of this café is that its ambience is too old, though it is a small but neat and hygienic eatery.

My top pick at Mission café is chole bhature and plain cheese dosa. For beverages I love to pick cold coffee with cream and their kesar tea. They are amazing. The pindi chana which they serve with bhature are a treat to my taste buds, the bhature are wafer thin but too oily. The cheese dosa has lots of cheese filled in it and is very yummy – you will be hard pressed to find a better one in Central / North Kolkata.

The garden chop served during breakfast is a hot seller here and they run out of stock very soon. Also, one can try their paneer butter masala, baby naan and idlis which are very popular. The rose milkshake is nice and has had the same taste over years.

I will highly recommend this place to all foodies who haven’t tried their food that are in the area during lunch or tea time. Situated in the heart of the city’s business hub, this place serves delicious food which is light on your pocket and serves 100% value for money.

Garam Tawa: A small but decent eatery

Ratings: 2.5 out of 5

Anyone bored of having the same food at home and currently planning to have Tandoori dishes somewhere in North Cal can visit Garam Tawa once. It is located at Shyambazar Five point Crossing, Kolkata. Take any Shyambazar-bound bus and you will find it near Golbari. The location of the restaurant (being central) attracts people.  It is essentially a multi-cuisine restaurant but also offers various Tandoori dishes. This is an ideal place for non-vegetarian people.  Being a small restaurant, Garam Tawa has very simple décor. Though it is a non-ac food stop one can also avail of their dine-in facility. But due to its small space and difficulty in accommodating many customers people prefer to opt for its home delivery facility, which is much appreciated because of its promptness.

Garam Tawa is best for middle-class customers. The food is very reasonably priced. The staff is humble and makes you feel at home. Food coupons are not accepted here. As it is a small restaurant, valet parking is not available. This problem will be faced by all customers who come in a car. Credit cards are also not accepted. Payments can only be made in cash. Another thing that they do not offer is alcohol. Essentially, this is a pocket-friendly restaurant for people who want to grab a bite at reasonable prices.

“GANGAUR – The Indian Food Hub of Kolkata”

Ratings: 3 out of 5

Gangaur restaurant, situated at a wonderfully central location in Kolkata at Russell Street is one of the most unconventional vegetarian Indian food hubs here. It is best known for its delicious Indian cuisine but also serves mouth watering snacks and south Indian cuisine. The renovated interiors  give you an essence of Rajasthan with luxury and comfort but the restaurant is a little cramped, as waiters move up and down to serve you your delicacies.

The service is pretty good but you have to wait for a long time if it is their peak time. Students and ladies generally drop in for breakfast and lunch, whereas it is very famous for families coming in for a wholesome vegetarian family dinner. Cleanliness and hygiene are kept in mind and well maintained by the restaurant, which is always nice.

Some famous, rich in taste dishes served by “Gangaur” include chole bhature, dahi puchka, dahi kebab, veg zafrani and corn methi malai; choices of breads range from cheese naan, masala kulcha, missi roti, pudina naan to some common options like butter naan and roti. The dessert options in the menu are that impressive unlike their main course and starters, though one item that truly stands out is their Raj Bhog (if you can get it).

To sum it up, the restaurant serves fresh food at affordable prices and has a comfortable ambience. The location is wonderful and always lively. Conveyance is not a problem at any time of the day, so the next time you are in that area and want to pamper your taste buds with some rich Indian vegetarian cuisine drop in at Gangaur.

Climb up to Terraza Jardine for a wonderful dinner under the night sky

Rating: 3 out of 5

I have been to Terraza Jardine a number of times and whenever I am there, I’ve been really very happy and satisfied. It is a food joint located on the roof top terrace of the Rainey Court Residency building on Ballygunj Circular Road. I always look for roof top seating arrangement in restaurants, especially for dinners as it feels great to have dinner with warm company sitting under the night stars.  Terraza Jardine is one of my favorite destinations in Kolkata, not only for its ambience but also for the quality of food that it serves at reasonable rates.

The service here is quite slow but I enjoy this slow pace because of the ambience. If you don’t turn up here leaving loads of work behind, then this slow pace is as an additional advantage if you are looking to enjoy the calmness and pleasantness of the place under the open night sky. It is an ideal romantic after-hours dinner destination. Though located in the heart of the city, you will enjoy total calmness here, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The restaurant opens at 11AM but I have never been there in daylight. I have tried a number of dishes there and each one of them was really excellent. North Indian is good here. Machhli Begum Bahar is a unique item here which you will rarely find elsewhere. Dry fruits and khoya are used to prepare the stuffing which is then stuffed inside a Bhetki fillet. With each bite, the heavy stuffing of nuts and khoya oozes out to fill your mouth with its creamy and delicious taste. Another item that’s pretty good here is their flavored lemon marinated chicken which they’ve named Gandharaj Kathi Murgi. The boneless chicken pieces is marinated in flavored lemon juice (gandharaj lemon) and then grilled. These two items are a must try recipe of this terrace restro.

If you are fond of continental dishes, then try their salads. Not a huge range of options but they’re good. To end your meal with something sweet, you can always go in for one of their desserts - their Baked Malai Chumchum and Hot Gulab Jamun with ice-cream are mention worthy. There is nothing special about their hot Gulab Jamun with ice-cream so avoid that.

North Indian delicacies at New Step Inn beckon you again and again

Rating: 3 out of 5

Simplicity is a major part of New Step Inn’s USP but when it comes to their culinary art, this restaurant surpasses the standards set by many top notch restaurants in Kolkata. Situated in New Alipore (near the Petrol Pump), New Step Inn is well known for North Indian, Chinese and Sea Food. I have been to this place a couple of times and really love to gorge on their North Indian delicacies. Their Chinese is average at best, but their North Indian is really excellent.

Their decor is very simple just like a dining hall at home. Simplicity prevails everywhere in this eating hub, giving its customers a homely feel. Their service is also very warm and moderately fast. But it is the quality of their food where they truly excel.

Their Chicken tandoori and reshmi kabab are a must try. For the main course, Butter Chicken and Chicken Bharta are the best options with any varieties of pulao or breads. Their rotis are so soft that you will surely prefer roti over rice. Dahi chicken is also a fantastic preparation here. The North Indian delicacies are really well made at New Step Inn and it is one of the few restaurants in Kolkata that serves good North Indian food.

Next, the Chinese - as I always prefer ordering Chinese, I tried their Chinese delicacies when I was at this place the first time (something I will NEVER be doing again!). I had Chicken lemon coriander soup with Dry red chilli chicken as a starter. Both were nice, especially the chilli chicken, but nothing outstanding. I had Chicken Hakka Noodles and Chicken kampao. None of the Chinese preparations can be described as bland but they were not particularly worth talking about. I was satisfied but have no plans to order Chinese here again. So, while I give a 2 rating for their Chinese, I will go up to 4 for their North Indian cuisine.

Gorge in to the super spicy delicacies at Halum’s

Rating: 3 out of 5

A small food joint which is not too well known but is immensely popular among JU students and locals, Halum’s serves some super spicy and delicious Chinese and Indian cuisine at pocket-friendly rates. Situated on North Road in Jadavpur, I have seen diners really gorge into some exotic food ‘halum-halum’ style.

It is a little eatery with a very simple ambience and limited seating arrangements – it’s better to call this a takeaway joint. It’s such a small restaurant but has a wide variety of options to satiate individual needs of different types of diners. Their Chicken Tandoori and Kababs are good and are prepared in a unique style with the use of various types of herbs and spices. Of the types we tried, the reshmi malai kabab and Afghani kabab were the best. The chickens in the kababs were so soft and juicy and cooked to perfection.

Another item that I loved here when I last ate here was their Szechwan Noodles. Very tasty (and VERY spicy!), my experience at Halum’s has always been good, though I recently heard that this food joint has temporarily shut down… best to call ahead before trying it out.

Get wholesome food @Foods

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Whenever an average restaurant enjoys the benefit of a prime location, business runs soundly. This is what has happened with Foods, located just opposite Padmasree Cinema in Garia on the main road. Movie viewers at Padmasree Cinema are primary customers at Foods and on weekends, this small take-away center does brisk business.

Offering both Chinese and North Indian delicacies, Foods provide wholesome meal at very reasonable rates – a site common in this part of town. With no seating arrangements (barring a few plastic stools placed on the footpath – not a capital proposition), hot selling items here include momo’s, fish fry, fish kabiraji and chicken pakora. Generally sold in the evening, their fish fry and fish kabiraj are really worth mentioning. Be there after 8 PM and you will be told that these items are all sold out.

Unlike their fish fry or kabiraji, the momos lack in heavy chicken stuffing. For my main, I tried the Chicken Biriyani accompanied with Chicken Butter Masala and Chicken Bharta. The biriyani was well prepared but the chicken preparations were too oily. However, both the chicken preparations had a generous dose of chicken in them. The only thing that is needed is to make the food here less oily.

The service is quite prompt and the rates are budget-friendly. So, with a bit of tweaking, this place could become more popular among its customers.

No Alladin’s magic in the cuisine at Chef Alladin

Rating: 0.5 out of 5

The name is quite appealing but the food is not appealing enough to go with the name of the restaurant. Located at Garia Station Road near 45B Bus Stand, Chef Alladin is a small takeaway joint with two tables and a few chairs placed on the sidewalk to provide basic dine-in. Eating on the road can be very annoying but one can ignore this if a restaurant serves you really mouthwatering food. But after tasting their food once, you won’t feel like returning here again.

I had the displeasure of being there few weeks back, and I was very unsatisfied with their overall service. They serve both Chinese and North Indian platter but cannot prepare either of these properly. I ordered a Chicken Roll while they were preparing my takeaway order. Firstly, the roll was too oily with very little chicken and lots of onions and sauce; left me wondering if I’d ordered an onion roll!

For takeaway, I ordered Murgh Biriyani, Veg Hakka Chow and Chicken Hakka Chow along with Chicken Bharta and Chilli Fish. None of the items in my list were up to the mark; in fact, much below average. Next - the Chinese preparations were very oily and were not prepared properly. In addition, they did not have any Chinese flavor in them and were absolutely tasteless. Oiliness is a huge problem in any item made here. The same goes for their Biriyani and Chicken Bharta. The biriyani was edible but not too great, and the Bharta was swimming in oil and not well prepared at all! Overall, the food was very badly prepared and very unhygienic as well as oily.

Despite my terrible experience, I saw this place overcrowded. Don’t know how or why - but I guess it’s good for the owner. I am never going back though!

TASTY FOOD FROM THE ROSE!

Rating: 3 out of 5

In Kolkata, there are four outlets of The Rose. Of them, two are bakeries and the other two are restaurants. While one bakery is located in Salt Lake Sector V the other is in College Street. Along with the Lake Town outlet, The Rose is one of those few restaurants in Kolkata that provides a very friendly dining experience. The place comes with not only comfortable sitting arrangements but it can accommodate a lot of people. They specialize in both Chinese and North Indian food. Though the décor is simple and understated, it looks nice without being too glamorous.

Their Chinese and North Indian delicacies are neither priced too high nor too low. At the same time, the cost is justified for the kind of food quality and quantity put up by them.  Some North Indian items to be had from here are chicken reshmi masala, chicken tawa masala, fish tawa masala, mutton rogan josh and mutton handi masala. These dishes are full of flavour and cooked with the right amount of Indian spices. Some vegetable delights to go with the non veg are their pindi chana, palak paneer, paneer butter masala. Their kebabs like paneer tikka, chicken reshmi kebab, mutton lakhnoi kebab and fish irani kebab are delightful tandoori items.  The meat pieces are juicy and tender. The portions are ample and more than enough for one person.

They are also adept at making some very delicious regular Chinese dishes. If you must have Chinese here, the ones that you can have as part of your meal are chicken fried rice, garlic chicken, Manchurian fish, chilli prawn and chilli paneer. The customer service is prompt and efficient, and the servers are quick with their service. Essentially, this is a wonderful restaurant that serves good Indian food.

A TASTE OF PUNJAB @ MEHAK-E-PUNJAB!

Rating: 3 out of 5

The moment you mention the name Mehak- e- Punjab; you immediately begin to salivate. They have three outlets. Of them, the VIP road outlet near Teghoria is not suitable for a dine-in due to the kind of crowd that hangs around there (really bad!). But the VIP one is a good option for home delivery and takeaway’s. The outlet at Axis Mall is more suited for taking your family for a meal.  At the same time, the food service at the VIP outlet is quicker than the one at the mall. The service at the Axis Mall restaurant can be a downer; it can take a while for them to serve your food.

Nevertheless, the restaurant serves food that is fresh, good and friendly. The ambience is friendly with comfortable sitting arrangements. They specialize in both Chinese and North Indian fares. The North Indian dishes not only taste excellent, but are spicy in typical Punjabi style. The food at Mehak is not suited for health conscious people due to the generous use of spices and oil.  But this is what makes their food tasty and delightful!  The biryanis (whether chicken or mutton) have a genuine North Indian taste. The tandoori items are mouth watering and well cooked. Vegetarian dishes like Dal makhani, Kadhai paneer and paneer tikka are fresh and well seasoned so vegetarians throng this place as well. The Indian breads are all uniformly good. Instead of the biryanis, these can be had with gravy dishes like chicken reshmi butter masala and chicken makhani.

Their Chinese dishes are on par with other equally good restaurants but do not expect very good or authentic Chinese here. Since their portions are overwhelming, one plate of rice or noodles should satisfy two comfortably. The quality and quantity of food that is available at such economical prices will surprise all who drop in for a meal.

Make your way to Magnolia now to savour some delicious dishes!

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Just opposite Park Hotel and among many popular restaurants in Park Street stands a cosy, little eatery called Magnolia.  I am afraid that you’ll not be very impressed by its gloomy exterior, but once inside the restaurant, you’ll surely like the ambience, food quality and their service. The waiters are quite prompt and efficient and respond to your beck and call at the drop of a hat.  The place is never crowded, so there will be no problem in finding a seat. Visit this place anytime between 12 noon and 11 pm and you are sure to find a table here. Drop in for a drink or a three course meal! Believe me, dine here and you’ll never worry about burning a hole in your pocket!

I have been to Magnolia twice and both times I have liked their varied preparations. I liked some Chinese dishes like mixed chowmein, sweet and sour prawn, chilli fish and chilli baby corn, but Magnolia is more famous for serving lip smacking north Indian delicacies. I found their chicken tikka kabab, tangri kabab and prawn tandoori very delicious. I am also a great fan of their tandoori pomfret, chakunda kabab, stuffed kulcha and plain pulao. If you do not have any plans of dining here, you can also drop in here for some lip smacking snacks and munchies along with your favourite drink. Magnolia prepares some yummy chicken pakoras, paneer tikka and paneer bhujiya.

Twice I’ve had their tandoori pomfret and both times the flavour stayed in my mouth for a long time. Dine here if you cannot find any place at other restaurants in Park Street.

Good but dubious food at Olypub!

Rating: 3 out of 5

Enjoying good food at a popular restaurant is a dream for every foodie, but the problem is you cannot judge a restaurant by its décor and style until you taste its food, just as you cannot judge a book by its cover until you read its content. My experience of eating at Olypub was somewhat quirky! I had no plans of eating at Olypub. But, yes I was in Park Street to dine at a popular restaurant. My blunder was that I didn’t care to book a restaurant beforehand and I had to pay for this lack of foresight. It was Sunday and Park Street was thronging with food lovers and connoisseurs, all ready to gorge lip smacking delicacies offered at various restaurants. I waited for forty-five minutes but with no hope of getting a table for myself, I decided to dine at some other restaurant in Park Street. It was only then I came across Olypub at 21, Park Street, Kolkata.

Frankly speaking, I was not quite impressed by its décor and ambience. The service was satisfactory, but they could improve on it. Voraciously hungry, I ignored all these trivialities and focussed on their varied preparations. I ordered chicken soup, chilli prawns, hamburger steak (mutton), chicken butter masala and tandoori roti. The quality of food served at Olypub was awesome and quantity was enormous. I knew I could not finish everything alone and requested the waiter to pack some for home. I savoured the mouth-watering flavour and the delicious aroma of chicken soup and simply loved the chilli prawns. I also loved the hamburger steak (mutton), which was so appetizing. I did not like the way they had prepared the chicken butter masala, which was too oily and too spicy though the tandoori rotis were soft and succulent.

After a very long time, I actually enjoyed such good food in a restaurant. I am looking forward to a second visit at Olypub. You may not like the ambience or standards of hygiene, but believe me you’ll just love the food here!

Consistent high quality food at Kwality!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Delicious food, cosy ambience and good service is a very rare combination altogether. Most restaurants meet any two of the above criteria, but finding all three together is rare, to say the least. I have been to a very few restaurants where I actually liked the ambience, food and services all together. Kwality is one such restaurant where you can find this rare combination. Although, Kwality has two outlets in Kolkata, I have always been to the one at Park Street (since I was a chid). I must say that I quite like the brightly lit interiors of this restaurant. The plush sofas and cushioned chairs offer seating arrangement for many diners.

Eating at Kwality is not at all an expensive affair. Meal for two costs Rs.800 approximately (VAT is extra).  I have tasted both the Indian as well as Chinese preparations at Kwality and I like both these cuisines.  I have tried their sweet corn chicken soup and fried chicken as starter and I simply loved both these preparations. Whenever I ordered anything other than Indian food, my main course items have consisted of chicken tetrazzini, chicken mayonnaise, chilli prawns, chicken chowmein and chicken fried rice here.

Any Indian a la carte meal here almost always consists of a combination of the following - chicken do piaza, chicken reshmi butter masala, rogan josh, saag meat, jeera pulao and (this is the best in town here!) chana bhathura. I always liked their tandoori chicken and mutton seekh kabab as startersas they are just awesome!

Not that you always have to eat a three-course meal at Kwality. You can also try some snacks and munchies any hour of the day. Kwality prepares some lip smacking paneer pakoras, egg pakoras, samosa chaats, sandwiches and stuffed omelettes. You can treat yourself on the above delicacies with some piping hot tea, coffee or chocolate shake (if you love chocolate).

Bhavesh Bhatia loves to taste various preparations at different restaurants and updates his blog regularly with restaurant reviews. He also updates his blog with other website content writing. So for any information on 100% original SEO content, get in touch with him.

REASONABLY PRICED FOOD @ TINNY DA DHABA!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Located very near the Golpark post office is the very small but pleasant food joint called Tinny Da Dhaba. This establishment can evoke mixed reactions in a first timer. The food joint is situated in one of the many dinghy lanes that dot Golpark. Yes, the ambience and décor of the place are very ordinary, but the quantity of food is stomach filling and the prices are low. The staff is friendly and efficient; the food takes very little time to reach the tables from the kitchen making it a great choice for a fast dining experience. They have two sitting sections; one is the inner air-conditioned sitting area and the other is the non air-conditioned outer area.

They are well known for their wide array of kebabs which are mostly available. Some well made and highly popular kebab items are tandoori fish, tandoori prawn, chicken pahari kebab and adrak ke panje. To go with their piping hot and soft rotis some of the dishes that you can try are mutton saagwala, egg curry and dal makhani. Even their nans and kulchas are soft and light; for instance, their masala kulchas are filled with a generous amount of masala stuffing. Likewise, for vegetarians their paneer items like Kadhai paneer, shahi paneer, palak paneer and paneer butter masala are also must haves.

Their meat dishes are always well done (read soft and well cooked) due to the use of the right amount of ingredients and cooking them for the right amount of time. Though it is a small restaurant, it provides a tempting selection of desserts from varied kulfi options to ice creams and sweet meats. They even make some very authentic and genuine liver and brain mutton preparations that you need to order twelve hours in advance! They are also well known for their seasonal delicacies which are not only excellent in taste but are also very reasonably priced.

NORTH INDIAN FOOD @ SANJHA CHULHA

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

For people who love north Indian food, Sanjha Chulha, located very near Science City, provides a decent dining experience. In comparison with other North Indian restaurants this is not a much sought after restaurant. The ambience and décor of the new section of the restaurant greatly enhances the dining experience at the restaurant though it is definitely nothing great, so do not raise your expectations too much. The jeweled tone décor lends a sophisticated atmosphere to the whole setting. The seating arrangements are comfortable and cozy, but at times it could get too cramped for comfort.

Their food and service needs improvement though. The place serves food that tastes is very inconsistent (sometimes excellent to middling) at economical prices. The food is economical considering the quantity and quality of food they serve (on a good day the food is quite nice!). At the same time, the food served here does bring out the essence of roadside dhaba fare. Consistency is not a strong point of this food joint. Sometimes, their roti would be stiff and unpalatable. The quality of their meat items (be it chicken, mutton, or fish) suffer from the occasional drop in standard.

Nevertheless, they do have some meat dishes that are house bestsellers. No meal is complete without having them. These are handi da kukkad, chicken malai kebab, Kadhai chicken, tandoori fish, rogan josh and tandoori chicken. These can be had with their array of Indian bread offerings. Amongst them, the garlic Nan deserves a mention. On the surface of the nans, you will find crisp and caramelized garlic pieces. Even their dal and soup preparations are wonderful side dishes. The flavours and aromas of the Indian spices used in the dishes are evident in all of them. A proper North Indian meal cannot do without their good old lassi and soda shikanji. To round off the meal they offer desserts like firni, rabri and gulab Jamun of which the firni is the only one we have tried.

WHOLESOME MEAL @ PUNJABEE RASOI

Rating: 3 out of 5

If you are looking for innovative but authentic Punjabi and Mughlai dishes, Punjabee Rasoi is the place to be. The location of this restaurant might put off certain people; the place is a little troublesome to find as it is located in a slummy neighbourhood (my reason for giving it a 3). Nevertheless, this popular establishment ranks high among many restaurants serving North Indian cuisine here. Their fare is not only innovative but delicious and mouthwatering as well. They offer comfortable and well arranged sitting arrangements, albeit in a small area.

This small establishment, located near Geetanjali Stadium, serves some of the best selections of kebabs in the city. Some of their popular and house kebab bestsellers are chicken lasooni kebab, mutton adrak ke panje, chicken khushnawa kebab and fish tikka. The kebabs are juicy and soft and the taste lingers on even after they have melted in the mouth. It is also a well known fact that they make some of the most lightest and non greasy biryani preparations. Their biryani always leave a light feeling in your stomach as they do not use dalda in their cooking at all (this is a HUGE plus if you understand how biryani is meant to be cooked and how much damage dalda does to our system). At the same time, the food does not lose its flavour even if you reheat it the next day.

For vegetarians, their pulao items like paneer pulao and jeera pulao are also worth considering. Equally well prepared are their flatbreads like nans, kulchas, parathas and rotis. Among the many nans on offer it is their Kabuli nan and garlic cheese nan that have a loyal fan following. Other popular side dishes for consumption are mutton jhal frezi, aloo bharwan, corn palak, dal makhani, chicken reshmi butter masala, chicken tikka butter masala and egg tarka.

The service is prompt and efficient, and the servers are well mannered and friendly.  The food portions are ample especially at the price that they charge.

TASTY AND DELIGHTFUL DHABA FOOD!

Rating: 2.5 out of 5

It is a well known fact that Azad Hind Dhaba is synonymous with authentic Punjabi dhaba fare. This Azad Hind outlet in Sector Five is easy to locate. The place is well decorated and the décor lends certain sophistication to this dhaba styled outlet. For health conscious people, the food will be a turned off due to the high oil content in the food. But the food is tasty and delicious.  The prices are reasonable as they are at all the Azad Hind outlets. Their food quality remains much the same without any improvement which can be c cause of concern if you want really clean surroundings. They have two dining areas in this outlet: one is the outdoor sitting area and the other is the air-conditioned inner sitting area.

They offer a wide range of kebab options and these tandoori items definitely encompass the true flavour of dhaba food. The wide variety of nans, parathas, rotis and kulchas are ideal for many tandoori dishes (both veg and non veg). Nans like Kabuli nan, cheese nan and garlic nan are not only soft but full of flavor as well. Certain nans like Keema Nan go very well with dishes like mutton kassa and Kadhai chicken. Their rotis and nans can also be had with some of their very popular chicken dishes like chicken do pyaza, chicken tikka butter masala and chicken saag.  Even their mutton items like mutton rogan josh and mutton Keema matar are quite good.

Equally nice is their paneer butter masala, egg tadka and aloo do pyaza – we tried only the first two as we had only one vegetarian among us. They were different from those served at other places. Though they serve all kinds of beverages, you can choose from a long list of shakes, mocktails and sodas (nothing to write home about); their lassi is the best option and most suitable for the kind of food served by them.

GOOD AND POCKET FRIENDLY FOOD!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Tandoori Delights located in the Park Circus area is well known for its pocket friendly Mughlai and Chinese fare. The Mughlai food, however, ranks higher than the Chinese fare. It is a very small and cozy restaurant. Consistency is never a problem with this restaurant. The servers are friendly and very efficient and are very prompt with their food service.

Though they do not have an extensive menu, all the items mentioned in the menu card are available. The mutton chaaps are well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The meat is tender and soft. The taste of the dish is simply unforgettable. This dish can be had with their generously applied butter Nan or tandoori roti. Even their chicken dishes are splendidly prepared.  Whether it is chicken reshmi kebab, chicken Tikka kebab or chicken tangri kebab; the kebabs are always succulent and juicy. Their chicken tandoori is always well turned out. The meat is not cooked hurriedly and the juice remained in the meat. The portions are such that there is no place left in the stomach after having consumed their mouthwatering kebabs and chicken tandoori. You cannot find any fault with their Biryani too. Unlike a Shiraz or Zeeshan, their Biryani offerings are very limited but the Biryani does not leave a heavy feeling in your stomach.

They do make some tasty and decent Chinese fare. Some popular Chinese dishes that find a lot of takers are their lemon chicken, Sichuan chicken and chilli chicken.  Even their seafood items – be it sweet and sour prawns, chilli fish or Manchurian prawn - are worth devouring from this very simple establishment. Most of their meat items go very well with their well cooked fried rice and Chowmein staples.

ON TRACK RIGHT ON WITH FOOD!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

This restaurant, located very near Tung Fong in Free School St., is famous not only for its train theme but its good quality and quantity food as well. The mock train reminds you of those bygone eras’ luxury trains that ran on steam. The restaurant is the perfect option for those who wish for a private dining experience in a luxurious and superior setting. Sitting in the replica of a steam engine is like actually travelling on a luxury train. Having your food in one of the train’s compartments certainly makes for a memorable food experience.

The restaurant specializes in both North Indian and Chinese cuisines. Both these cuisines are equally good and are reasonably priced here. From the North Indian section , the must haves appetizers from their veg and non veg tandoori starters are kebabs like dahi kebab, hara bhara kebab, chicken tangri kebab and chicken reshmi kebab. For the main course, you can order their chicken bharta and chicken butter masala. Along with these meat dishes, as vegetarian side dishes you can have Kadhai paneer and paneer butter masala. You can have them with their well cooked kabli nan and other nan variations as well. Equally well prepared are their Chinese delicacies like pan fried chilli prawn, red pepper fish and chilli prawn (seafood options) and devil’s chicken, lat mei kai and drums of heaven. They go well with the mixed fried rice and mixed Hakka noodle options. A meal at On Track is not complete without having your food with their exotic mocktail offerings. The meal can be rounded off with their most sought after hot brownie with vanilla ice cream dessert.

The attractive and innovative décor coupled with authentic North Indian and Chinese fare makes On Track a highly sought after restaurant in the whole Park Street area.

FOOD THAT IS MEANT TO BE RELISHED @ COPPER CHIMNEY!

Rating: 3 out of 5

Copper Chimney at City Centre mall will definitely have a very long innings. The lavish and opulent décor makes dining out here a grand experience. The whole place is done up in very earthy tones which in a way curtails the grandness of this place. The ambience is further enhanced by the large lights enclosed in copper colour shades that you find hanging from their high ceilings.

The most notable aspect of this restaurant is that their meat dishes are always cooked to perfection. For instance, their mutton seekh kebab is cooked to perfection. The meat is tender and soft. Similarly, their mutton or chicken or prawn biryani is a delish with right amount of spices and lots of mutton or chicken or prawn pieces. Whichever biryani you may opt for the biryani is always light and flavorsome. Even other popular dishes like murg makhani and murgh rara cannot be given a miss. These Copper Chimney dishes are cooked in rich tomato gravy and encapsulate the flavour of the Indian spices very well. Equally popular is their Reshmi Chelo (though I didn’t much care for it nor did I think it was in the same league as Peter Cat). The soft and juicy kebabs with buttered cream rice always make a decent combo. The meat portions are adequate for the price that they command.

For desserts, they have on offer a lot of Indian sweet dishes like ras malai, kulfi, rabri, a special form of rabdi called muzaffar and many more. The cost for eating out here is not too high nor is it too low. The food service is fast and efficient. The staff is courteous and helpful. The food is served within ten to fifteen minutes of ordering. Like in other classy and sophisticated restaurants, Copper Chimney makes use of technology in place of pen and paper feedback; you can leave your feedback by filling up the review form on the iPad itself. This is definitely a plus, but if one is comparing, their branches in Mumbai are far better.
