Thai delicacies @ Benjarong

Have you ever got a feeling of sitting in heart of Thailand and eating authentic Thai cuisine when you are actually stationed in Kolkata? Well, I had this feeling when I tasted the authentic and mouth-watering Thai delicacies at Benjarong. Situated on the third floor of South City Mall, Kolkata, Benjarong attracts a huge crowd, mostly Bengalis who throng here to taste delish Thai soups, prawn preparations and curries. And what can be said about the ambience! Oh it is just lovely and artful! Cast a glance around and you’ll find miniatures and Buddhist artefacts displayed on shelves or tucked up in the corners! Illuminated with bright LEDs and chandeliers, Benjarong is the perfect place to dine with family and friends.

The popularity of any restaurant depends on the food quality and the kind of delicacies it offers. Benjarong offers a variety of lip smacking Thai preparations. Last time I was there, I made it a point to try their variety fish and chicken preparations along with delicious Thai soups. There were five of us and we had ordered a sumptuous meal for lunch. We had Gai chicken (served with peanut sauce) and Goong prawn (served with raw papaya salad) as appetisers. And of course, these were complimented with delicious and aromatic Po Teak Siam Soup (an aromatic spicy seafood soup cooked with tender peppercorn and holy basil). Our main course consisted of Gai Tang (traditional Thai grilled chicken), Pahd Benjarong ( here you can get your choice of fish or prawns cooked in chilli basil sauce), Poo Padh Cha (a mouth watering preparation of crab meat tossed with red curry paste and tender peppercorns), Kaeng Ped Gai (it’s a traditional Thai chicken preparation where chicken is cooked in red curry with bamboo shoots ), Khao Padh (Thai garlic and tomato flavoured rice which is served with your choice of meat. we had it with Gai [chicken]) and Bamee Padh ( soft noodles tossed with choice of meat, garlic and bean sprouts. We opted for Goong (prawn).

We dropped the curtain finally by ordering luscious Sankhaya Fakthong and yummy chocolate mousse for desserts. Sankhaya Fakthong is a traditional Thai dessert. It is a delicious preparation of coconut pumpkin custard and coconut ice cream. Dig into their mouth watering Thai preparations just once and I’m sure you would crave to taste them again!
