Don’t miss the view from 3 D’s rooftop!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

This is another restaurant in Jaipur that simply won my heart. Situated in south Jaipur, very close to Jawahar Circle, 3 D’s is a restaurant that occupies the 8th and 9th floor of Corporate Tower at Tonk Road. We (my friends and I) were there around 9PM to have our last dinner in Rajasthan in a memorable way as we were supposed to leave for Kolkata the next day. While reaching there, as soon as we heard that it had an outdoor seating arrangement, we made up our minds to dine under the amazing night sky of Rajasthan.

Stepping into their roof top terrace, I was just swayed by the scenic beauty of Jaipur city under its beautiful night sky. So pleasing and fascinating the city looks from this place! All four of us gradually settled down at a corner table near the balustrade of the terrace so we could enjoy the cityscape while enjoying our dinner to make our last night in Rajasthan really memorable. We ordered Dahi Ke Reshmi Kebab and Tandoori Mushroom as appetizers, and Garlic Butter Naan, Handi Dum Biriyani and Zeera Rice with Govind Gatta Masala and Mewa Malai Kofta for the main course. Our orders were served very fast. We relished all the pure vegetarian Rajasthani delicacies as all of the items were lip smacking, especially the gatta masala. Gatta masala is one of the best Rajasthani preparations that I liked in almost all the restaurants I visited here.

Coming to their service, I must say their service is very fast as well as very friendly. Even if you don’t call a waiter, he will attend to you at regular intervals to ask if everything is fine or anything else is needed. A perfect place for a family gathering or hanging out with friends, 3 D’s has everything, from its beautiful ambience to good service, great food and affordable rates.

If ever in Jaipur, Handi Restaurant should be a must visit dining hub

Rating: 4 out of 5

During my stay in Rajasthan, I spent almost a week in Jaipur. Being a super foodie, I hopped into many eating areas there to taste the varieties of Rajput delicacies. Handi restaurant at MI Road was one of those destinations (which according to me is the best restaurant in Jaipur) to relish authentic North Indian and Mughlai cuisine prepared absolutely in Rajasthani style. As it is located just opposite the GPO, it is quite easy for tourists (like us) to find this place with such a good landmark.

We (my friends and I) went there for lunch on the next day after experiencing a bitter situation at Niros on the second day of our trip. As we entered, we were stunned to see the interior décor. Very simple but amazingly designed with indigenous Rajasthani artifacts and paintings, the restaurant has plenty of seating arrangements to accommodate a huge number of diners at a time. Soon after entering, a restaurant staff approached and welcomed us in a typical Indian style uttering the word, “Namaste”. He guided us to a 4-seater table and handed a menu card to us, mentioning that day’s special items.

It was almost 2PM and we were actually hungry for lunch, especially when the tantalizing flavors of Mughlai dishes were hitting our olfactory organs. We concentrated on the menu and placed our order which included Chicken Tikka, Fish Tikka (we were lucky to receive this item as we were there in November as this dish is only available in winter!), the famous Jaisalmeri Laal Maas, Gatta Masala, Jeera Rice and Chicken Biriyani. Being in Rajasthan, if you miss the taste of Laal Maas and Gatta Masala, you will really miss a major part of the state (gastronomically speaking).

Each of these items were really amazing, especially the Laal Maas. Prepared with Rajathani spices, this item tasted awesome. We relaxed and relished our meal for almost an hour. The rates were also in line with their quality and quantity of food and their friendly service. Overall, with food, ambience and service taken altogether, this place is surely to get a good ranking, at least 4/5 (if not more!). If I get a chance to visit Jaipur once again in the future, this restaurant will be a must visit place for me.

AFFORDABLE AND TASTY FOOD!

Rating: 3 out of 5

The eatery Subho Chinese Hut is not very difficult to locate in the New Alipore area. It is situated right opposite the other famed food joint of the area, Gupta Brothers, very near the popular Triangular Park in New Alipore. It has managed to maintain its grip among food lovers in spite of the presence of biggies in the area like Gupta Brothers and Azad Hind Dhaba. Their very limited offerings not only taste awesome but are very filling as well. The goal of satisfying the customer with a wholesome meal is really fulfilled by them.

Their most amazing and popular item are their delish chicken and veg momos. The momos (whether fried or pan fried) are juicy and meaty. The generous filling of the momos will really end up silencing the hunger pangs of any individual. Their extensive soup options are well seasoned and come with a generous amount of vegetables and meat pieces. Their spice chicken noodle soup is one such example of a well prepared noodle soup. Other equally tasty soups worth trying out are hot and sour soup and sweet corn soup. But the winner of them all is definitely their jade soup. The soup is an all season wonder. It can be had during the cold winter months as well as in the hot summer months. Similarly, their minestrone soup (Italian soup) is equally deserving of attention from foodies. For side dishes, they only offer chicken items; prawn and fish options are a rarity here. All of their chicken dishes have meat that is not only juicy but soft and tender as well. The size and portions of these chicken items are overwhelmingly huge as well and go really well with the fried rice and noodle staples. Noodles like mix Hakka and mix gravy chow are light and non greasy.

The service is great - the kind where each and every customer is well attended to by the staff.

DELISH BUT BASIC CHINESE FARE!

Rating: 3 out of 5

Sanghai Pure Chinese Food is a popular food stop for many of the weary shoppers to the Shyambazar and Hatibagan area. The food joint offers pocket friendly food with overwhelming food portions. It is a commonplace restaurant; not the glamorous type like you will find in say Park Street. The furnishings and interiors are plain and ordinary. The chairs and tables are neatly arranged in this small establishment. Yet, one doesn’t feel too cramped for comfort in their very small sitting area. The service is always the same; the servers are attentive to the needs of the customer and are very prompt at meeting their serving time with the least amount of time wasted. For this reason, the food served is always fresh and piping hot.

As far as possible, they prepare pure Chinese food, but at other times their fare is comparable to the Indian Chinese fare served in some of the pati Tangra restaurants. Having said so, the food is delish and excellent in taste. Some notable and most sought after items are their soups and the meat dishes. Actually, a lot of the items mentioned in the menu are popular due to the low prices of the dishes and the generous quantity they serve rather than the quality of the food.

Yet, some dishes do need mentioning in this review simply for their immense power to tantalize our taste buds. Some of the tantalizing options served here include Chicken 65, garlic chicken, chilli prawn and Manchurian fish. These can be followed by noodle and fried rice staples like Sichuan mixed gravy or Hakka chow, Sichuan mixed fried rice and their very tangy American chopsuey.

Cost effective and fairly priced food items are offered by this very ordinary and old establishment. People leave with their food cravings satisfied with a cheap and wholesome meal from this very small and ordinary eatery.

DOWNRIGHT ORDINARY CHINESE FOOD!

Rating: 1.5 out of 5

Chopstick is a very unimpressive and small food outlet. For the Chinese food deprived area of Behala, this is definitely an option worth considering, but not otherwise. The place is more suitable for takeaway rather than a dine-in; as the ambience and service can turn you off. The food is decent and average at best and justifies the cost that it commands.

Nevertheless, they offer extensive and varied food options. Their veg and non veg starters are lip smacking delights and that is where it ends, though their sizes are such that they will fill your stomach instantly. Some of their popular items include chilli prawn, five spiced chicken, lat Mei kai and chilli baby corn.

Yes, one CAN visit this place to pick up some soup. Equally well seasoned and light are their many soup offerings. Some popular ones are mixed hot and sour soup, chicken manchow soup and seafood coriander soup. The broths are well cooked and there is the right balance of flavours in their soups.
Order their seafood dishes like hot garlic prawn, chilli fish, and sweet and sour prawn - a good way to get an idea of the basic food served over here. For a first timer, the taste might not be to their liking but eventually you will get used to the flavours! They have an extensive veg and non veg fried rice and noodle staples and make fried rice dishes like chicken garlic fried rice, ginger garlic rice, lemon garlic fried rice just to name a few.

They also serve some north Indian and Bengali preparations but you have to gutsy enough to order them.

INTERESTING LOCAL CHINESE FARE @ CHAPLIN CHINESE RESTAURANT!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The food of this very ordinary and plain looking restaurant will definitely impress you.  The aptly named Chaplin Chinese Restaurant is located near the Sinthee More area. This small sized restaurant manages to serve lip smacking and delish Chinese fare at affordable prices. The prompt and efficient food service is definitely commendable and deserves the appreciation of one and all.

Instead of the usual fried rice and Hakka or gravy Chowmein staples, they serve and specialize in a variety of American and Chinese chopsuey preparations. Some of them are mixed American chopsuey, chicken prawn Chinese chopsuey and their innovative (and one of a kind!) mutton Chinese or American chopsuey. These chopsuey options are undeniably their house bestsellers.  The noodles are delightfully crispy, and are served with a generous amount of vegetables and tangy chopsuey sauce.  The quantity of their chopsuey is huge and ample. One person might find it difficult to finish a single plate of chopsuey.

They also have a separate section for their Manchurian dishes, dishes cooked in Hong Kong style and dragon dishes. Likewise, as part of their vegetarian side dishes, they serve some mouthwatering mushroom, paneer and potato items. They even offer a good number of mutton dishes like chilli mutton, hot garlic mutton and sweet and sour mutton. Whether it is chicken, fish, prawn or mutton, the pieces are juicy and succulent.  Even non veg snack options like spring rolls (of chicken, prawn or fish), pakoras (of  prawn, chicken or fish),  and spring chicken are not only crispy but luscious and soft as well. Like their chopsuey, even their snack options are sought after.

They also offer very limited north Indian delicacies for mutton and chicken options like chicken Rezala, mutton chaap, chicken bharta and so on, but this is not the place for mughlai food – just enjoy the Chinese here.

YUMMY FOOD @ WING WAH!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Wing Wah is a small little restaurant that is hidden in one of the many lanes that dot Laketown. The restaurant offers no parking facilities and the sitting area inside the restaurant is too small and cramp for comfort (-1 for this!). They do provide outdoor sitting options though; but the best way to have their food is in the comfort of your home. Despite the space crunch, the place packs a huge punch in the food department. The food is not only fresh but fast and good as well. The typical Chinese offerings of this establishment are reasonably priced. The fare is cooked in the typical Tangra style.

The quantity of food is such that one person might find it difficult to finish the dish that he has ordered for himself. Among other options, it is their mei foon that is very popular among diners. The mei foon is soft and light with a good number of meat pieces and vegetables. The same can be said for their chow and fried rice options. The portions of such staples are more than enough; they can be overwhelming at times with their generous servings and go well with almost all of their dishes. Almost all their dishes are well seasoned and well cooked, are very popular and most sought after by regulars as well as newbies.

Some of their well made dishes that are worth raving about are lime fish, Manchurian chicken, chilli chicken, garlic chicken, and sweet and sour prawn. Their soup options, especially their Thai soup and hot and sour soup, are beautifully flavored soups. The broths of both these soups are not only light but seasoned with the right ingredients. The Thai soup has the perfect balance of sweetness, spiciness, saltiness and sourness in it. Even their spicy items are mildly spiced; like dishes that you will get from authentic Chinese restaurants.
