Oscars 2015: A Foretaste and Forecasts

On Sunday, eight exceptional films will be fighting it out at the 87th Oscars Award which is set to take place at LA’s Dolby Theater. These eight films are “The Theory of Everything”, “Boyhood,” “Selma,” “Birdman,”  “Whiplash,” “American Sniper,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” and “The Imitation Game”. Of the eight, the movie that is predicted to win big on Sunday night is the Michael Keaton’s starrer, “Birdman”.  The movie has picked up several awards during this year’s award season that included the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Producers Guild Award and the Directors Guild Award.

“Birdman” is expected to win the Best Picture honor

According to an award analyst of The Hollywood Reporters, statistics are on the side of the Michael Keaton movie and all indications point to the fact that it will win the Best Picture category. At the same time, the award analyst has pointed out that the one aspect of the movie that goes against it is that this will be the first time in the history of an award presentation that a movie which has won the Best Picture prize failed to get a nomination for film editing. The award analyst also believes that the only contender to this movie is the Bradley Cooper starrer, “American Sniper”.

Redmayne is the predicted winner for Best Actor

Besides the buzz surrounding the Best Picture category, the category for Best Actor is also buzzing with activity and predictions. The eight actors who have been nominated for this year’s Oscars are Bradley Cooper, Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Steve Carell and Benedict Cumberbatch. Industry experts have opined that Keaton, Cooper and Redmayne will be the front contenders for this award. While Michael Keaton has the star power, Redmayne’s performance as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything” is being said to be the most likely winner. And if one goes by the past record of winners of Best Actor for the Oscars, all ten of them had won the SAG award and this year Redmayne had bagged the prize.

The winners for the Best Actress and Supporting Actress categories have been locked!

The Best Actress category, on the other hand, does not have insiders worried and speculating. All indications point to Julianne Moore whose performance as an Alzheimer inflicted woman in “Still Alice” has swept every single award this award season. The other nominees include Felicty Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Marion Cotillard and Rosamund Pike. The winner for the Supporting Actress category has also been predicted. Insiders and people in the know-how are going with Patricia Arquette. The other contenders are Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Keira Knightley and Laura Dern.

Fashion Trends and Predictions for Oscars 2015

Like every year, even this year the 87th Academy Awards will be a show-stopping and statement-making occasion with the red carpet flooded with immense glamour and stunners. To look their best, stars and their stylists begin months in advance with much deliberations and planning going into finding the perfect gown. Generally, designers send over their sketches to the actresses and their celebrity stylists towards the end of the year. And it takes months before a decision is arrived at. At the same time, last minute changes are also not new ranging from stylists grabbing gowns from the recently concluded New York Fashion Week to last minute decision change by stars. A case in point is the trade from Valentino to Prada by Anne Hathaway at the 2013 Oscars.

Sequined dresses and gowns are the hot options for Oscars 2015!

Despite last minute changes, one can still predict the fashion trends and choices that the stars are going to make at this year’s 87th Academy Awards. Among the various trends, the choice of sequin dresses and gowns seem to be a hit among actresses of all ages on the various red carpet events with the Oscars being the last of the award season. For instance, Dakota Johnson of “Fifty Shades of Grey” fame had worn a silver sequined gown by Sonia Rykiel  at SNL’s  40th anniversary celebration.  Julianne Moore, on the other hand, had chosen a custom-made Givenchy gown for the Globes.

Sheer and pantsuit options are the other hot trends!

Sheer is turning out to be another hot favorite with celebrities at this year’s award season. Many Hollywood celebrities are opting for skin revealing sheer gowns and dresses. For example, singers Meghan Trainor and Jessie J had chosen sheer dress options for the 2015 Grammy Awards. While Trainor opted for a lacy Galia Lahav evening dress, Jessie J wore a Ralph & Russo gown. Besides the profusion of sequin dresses and gowns in sheer fabric, the list of red carpet looks also includes jumpsuits and pantsuits. For the Golden Globes, Emma Stone showed off her feminine side by sporting slacks with a big bow at the back along with a sequined bustier. On the other side of the age scale, the forty-six year old actress, Jennifer Aniston, looked ravishing in a Gucci tuxedo that showed off skin for the Critics Choice Awards.

Zuhair Murad is the hottest designer right now!

Among the various designers, the Lebanese fashion designer, Zuhair Murad has been a favorite at all the red carpet events this year. His creations have been worn by stars from Jennifer Lopez to Portia de Rossi and Chrissy Teigen to Katy Perry.
